Chapter 66: Chapter 66

The city was flooded with the soft, golden light of early morning, but Caspian Montague's office was steeped in shadows. He leaned against the large window, watching the crowds outside the streets below him, his mind racing around the misery they were in. The frozen funds meant that Celeste's home was slipping through their fingers, and time was running out.

Caspian's fingers drummed nervously against the mahogany desk as he read the latest financial reports. His suit, a dark and well-tailored one, was just an embarrassment to the disorder haunting his mind. Weighing heavily on the room was the oppressive silence of someone else's.

Caspian took a deep breath and pulled out his phone, his thumb moving up and down the contact list until it settled on the name he hadn't said in years-Elena Hart. A shadowy mentor of his youth, Elena had once been a master in the world of money, a genius with numbers. Her previous visit had been filled with tension and unresolved issues, but Caspian understood that now she was their best solution.

He punched her number in, the receiver cold in his ear. Elena picked up after a couple of rings, cautious, the voice unmistakably familiar. "Caspian. It's been a long time."

"We require your assistance," Caspian said, voice even despite the urgency."Sterling froze our accounts and we lost everything. I realize we didn't leave things in the best spot, however Hayes Enterprises is teetering on the verge of disaster."

Elena paused before speaking. "I'mn listening."

Caspian wasted no time laying it all out; the financial shenanigans, the

legal hurdles that Sterling had constructed. He described the urgent need to free the frozen assets to prevent the auction of Celeste's home, which stands as a symbol of their family legacy.

Elena sighed, probably because she could hear how much that meant to him. "Caspian, this is risky. Doing so now would highlight the flaws in my own dealings. If Sterling hears about this, I'm done."

Caspian grabbed the phone and held it tightly. "I know it's a risk, but we don't have any alternatives. Specializes in Corporate Reviews, Hayes Enterprises isn't merely a company-it's our family. Please,Elena. We need you."

There was a long pause, the tension palpable across the line. At last,Elena said, her tone firm. "I'll support you, but you need to understand that this move is going to put everything ouIt in the open. My involvement will bring to light vulnerabilities that I've already fought hard to keep hidden."

Caspian felt grateful, mingled with fear. "We are ready for the repercussions. Your expertise could save us."

Elena took a deep breath. "Well then, I will see you tonight at the old warehouse on 5th Street. We need to move quickly."

The despair melted away as Caspian ended the call, having taken his first step towards recovery. But Elena's warning echoed ominously in his mind.Opening up left open the possibility that his fight with Sterling would get even more personal and dangerous. Time was running out, and the road to redemption was littered with new threats.

The courthouse steps were packed with bidders and onlookers, the tension palpable as it neared the final moments of the auction. Celeste Montague

stood just outside the entrance, her heart pounding in her chest as she watched the auctioneer readying to begin. Her stately black dress gleamed in the sun, and her auburn hair tumbled in loose waves around her shoulders. Each time she looked back at the crowd ,it was a desperate attempt to seek Caspian, but to no avail.

Inside the auction hall itself, the air was charged. The auctioneer, a sturdy man with an air of authority, peered over at the keen throng, adjusting his glasses. "Ladies and gentlemen, we welcome you to the last of the bidding for the day," he said, his voice booming in the room. "This gorgeous family home is a part of the Montague legacy, and today it can be yours.

A bidding war exploded. But then, a ghostly figure emerged, slipping in and out without the notice of most. They were wearing a slick suit, slick in its authority, and walked up to the podium with purpose. The crowd buzzed with rising excitement as the bidder, who wore his hat pulled low to obscure part of his face, slapped a stack of legal documents down on a table.

The auctioneer turned toward the new bidder and raised an eyebrow."We have some new documents that we have to consider. Please submit them for review."

The bidder's voice was smooth and authoritative as it spoke, sending a shiver down Celeste's spine. "These documents act as a legal override of the existing injunction of Caspian Montague. "They offer new terms to ensure the auction can move forward without further delay."

As the auctioneer flipped through the papers, his brow furrowing more and more, a couple of people in the crowd began to mumble in confused voices, and then a hush fell over the room. Celeste's heart pounded as he paused, the tension in the room thick as all waited for his decision. The

mysterious bidder's gaze flicked to hers for an instant, a smug smile playing on the corners of his mouth-Soren Montague, lurking in the shadows, his confidence uncracked.

Just as the auctioneer wwas about to say something, a sudden flash of motion caught Celeste's attention. The lights dimmed briefly, and the room held its collective breath, sensing a pivotal moment in the proceedings. The auctioneer paused, his fingers poised above the gavel, indecisive between the fresh legal documents and what they implied.

Caspian's voice rang in her mind as well, the struggle between power and integrity reaching a fever pitch. The auction teetered on the edge of chaos, the result of which was all unknown, as the true power of Caspian and Soren's proxy fought in a high-stakes game of corporate chess.

The night was draped in darkness as Talia Montague walked the quiet hallways of her father's sprawling mansion. The time for avoidance is long gone; her heart raced with anxiety; she knew she had to face it. Talia's chestnut hair was pulled back, her green eyes flickering over the highly decorated space in a mixture of terror and resolve. She had said yes to Celeste's request for help to gain access to Soren's private study, motivated by a sense of guilt and hope for redemption for her own past betrayals.

The ornate door loomed before her as she neared Soren's office, its intricate carvings reminding her of the power her father held over others, and why she was being brought here today. She took a deep breath, and knocked lightly, the sound reverberating through the great corridor. Soren answered the door, immaculate and sharpened suit pressed, his blue eyes cutting through hers with a cold, calculating gaze.

"Talia," he said, opening wide and moving aside for her to enter. "Come in.We need to have a conversation about your role at the company."

Talia stepped forward, her voice shaking just a little as she spoke. "Father,I can't do this anymore. I'm done with your schemes; I want to help Celeste and Caspian.'

It did not change Soren's expression, which remained cool and composed."You're making a mistake, Talia. Your role here is to guarantee the successful viability of Hayes Enterprises. Disloyalty is something that I don't tolerate."

Talia stepped forward uncertainly, her determination faltering. "But what you're doing is ripping our family apart. "You're destroying everything we've worked for."

Soren sat back in his chair, eyes slitting slightly. "Family loyalty is above all, Talia. And i you decide to turn against me, you're not just turning against me-you're turning against the entire company.'

As the conversation reached a tense standstill, Talia's phone vibrated quietly on the desk. She glanced at it, her eyes widening when she read a cryptic message: "One wrong move, and you fall with them."

A shiver ran down her spine, the threat in the air over them like a dark cloud. Talia walked away, her heart filled with fear and resolve. "I can't do this anymore," she whispered, then slipped out of the office, the magnitude of her choices weighing on her more than ever.

A strain of torn loyalties battled within her heart as she went down the twisted passages of the mansion, dragging her steps in the clinical atmosphere to do the right thing and keep her family safe. The cryptic message stayed with her, a painful reminder that Sterling's hands reached far beyond anything she'd imagined and that their battle was far from finished.
