Chapter 294: Chapter 294

Ethan Sullivan's tall figure reflected in the glass walls of California Airport.

His phone buzzed violently the moment he stepped off the plane.

"Ethan!" A shrill female voice pierced through the line. "Sophia is marrying Kyle Grant today!"

Ethan's eyes turned icy. "Lillian Yates?"

"That's right!" Lillian screamed hysterically. "If I can't have him, you won't have her either!"

The call ended abruptly.

Seconds later, his phone vibrated with several photos.

In the images, Kyle stood in a black tuxedo, his veiled bride beside him. The faint profile in white sent a jolt through Ethan's chest.

It was Sophia.

His fingers trembled uncontrollably.

"To Kyle's house. Now."

His assistant had never seen him so unhinged. The car door swung open.

The black sedan tore down the highway.

"Faster!" Ethan's knuckles whitened as scenery blurred past.

A truck barreled toward them.

Screeching brakes. The world spun.

Before darkness swallowed him, he dialed Sophia with his last strength. "Don't marry..."

Blood clouded his vision.

Sophia's panicked voice crackled through. "What marriage? Where are you?"

Silence.

"Mr. Sullivan!" His assistant's distant scream faded.

Sophia clutched the dead line, fingers numb.

She redialed. Only mechanical beeps answered.

"What's wrong?" Kyle noticed her pallor mid-ceremony.

"Ethan's in trouble."

She bolted from the altar. Kyle followed.

"Interstate 5!" Her voice shook as she commanded the driver.

The car raced through traffic.

At the crash site, Sophia found only twisted metal.

A body in a familiar suit lay in crimson.

The shattered Patek Philippe watch stabbed her vision.

"No..." Her legs buckled.

Trembling, she touched the mangled face. Tears splashed cold skin.

"Get him to a hospital!" she rasped.

The driver helped lift the corpse, eyes red.

Kyle arrived to find Sophia clinging to the body.

"Call the police," he ordered.

DNA results took three days.

Sophia never left the corpse's side.

Audrey Sullivan collapsed upon seeing her son.

Dawn on the fourth day. The doorbell rang.

Kyle froze at the sight of Ethan, bandaged but alive.

"Where's Sophia?" His voice was raw.

In the living room, Sophia murmured to the corpse.

At his voice, her head snapped up.

Time stopped.

"You..." Tears spilled.

Ethan yanked her up. "Why cry over a stranger?"

She gripped his shirt, fearing a mirage.

From his pocket, he produced a velvet box.

Diamonds blazed in morning light.

"Marry me again." He knelt.

Laughing through tears, she crashed into him.

The wedding had been Lillian's scheme. The dead man—Ethan's decoy bodyguard.

As joy flooded them, Ethan held Sophia tight.

This time, he'd never let go.
