Victor Sullivan narrowed his eyes, his lips curling into a forced smile. "They're both my sons. Of course I care for them equally. Isabella is perfect in every way—an ideal match for you. There's no rush for grandchildren. You're both still young."
Adrian Sullivan scoffed inwardly. This old fox is clearly playing favorites.
He maintained a neutral expression. "Having both Valentine siblings marry into the Sullivan family would make quite the story. Perhaps I should call off my engagement to Isabella and let Natalie and Alexander be together instead."
Victor clapped him on the shoulder. "I have my own plans for Natalie. Don't worry, son. You'll always be my favorite."
Favorite my ass, Adrian thought, grinding his teeth. That woman was only good for one thing—and it wasn't conversation.
But for now, he had to keep playing the dutiful son.
Natalie Sullivan fluttered out like a joyful butterfly, making a beeline for the black sedan parked by the curb.
Alexander Valentine stepped out, his tall frame striking against the sunlight. A smile touched his eyes as he caught her mid-leap.
"Why didn't you come inside?" Natalie tilted her face up.
Alexander gently tucked a stray lock behind her ear. "It's a family gathering. I didn't want to intrude."
"You must join us next time. Grandma wants to meet you."
"Of course."
As they turned toward the car, Victor's voice boomed behind them: "Stop right there!"
Natalie whirled around, glaring. "Dad, what nonsense are you spouting now?"
Victor ignored her, addressing Alexander directly. "Alexander, you and Natalie aren't suited for each other."
Natalie immediately linked arms with Alexander. "Your judgment has always been terrible. The more you oppose us, the more determined I am to be with him!"
Victor's mustache quivered with rage before his expression abruptly shifted. "Fine. You have my blessing."
Natalie flashed a triumphant grin. "Thanks, Dad!"
She tugged Alexander toward the car.
Only then did Victor realize he'd been played. "You little—"
Natalie stuck out her tongue. "Haven't you heard? Women are fickle creatures."
The door slammed shut as they sped away, leaving Victor fuming on the sidewalk.
Spotting Ethan Sullivan emerging with Sophia Laurent, he complained, "Talk some sense into Natalie! Alexander's health—"
Ethan cut him off. "Alexander is healthier than you'll ever be."
"But what about Adrian—"
"Double weddings strengthen family ties. It's a good thing."
Victor's blood pressure spiked. "You're all trying to kill me!"
"Worry less, live longer." Ethan strode off without another glance.
When Victor called Natalie, he found himself blocked immediately.
Inside the car, Natalie blinked up at Alexander. "Pull over."
His grip tightened on the steering wheel. "What's wrong?"
"I want to kiss you."
The moment the car stopped, she pounced.
Her technique had improved—like a kitten craving sugar, she licked and nipped until his skin burned.
Breaking for air, she cradled his face. "How are you so sweet?"
Alexander traced her flushed cheeks, thinking you're the one made of honey.
Suddenly, Natalie straddled his lap, biting his Adam's apple. "So hard here."
Alexander's breath hitched. In one motion, he pinned her against the seat.
His kiss carried years of pent-up hunger, his hands roaming her waist—
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The window rattled under violent knocking.
Alexander jerked away, hastily lowering the window to reveal Victor's livid face. "Have you no decency? In broad daylight!"
Natalie laughed. "Says the man who knocked up Mom before marriage!"
"That was—"
"Alexander is all I need!" She clung to him defiantly.
Victor yanked at the locked door handle.
"Meddle again, and I'll make Mom divorce you!" Natalie rolled up the window. "Drive."
The car peeled out, exhaust fumes blasting Victor as they disappeared down the road.
