Chapter 99: Chapter 99

William Sullivan was reading the newspaper on the sofa when he suddenly heard his wife's muffled sobs.

He removed his reading glasses and saw Eleanor clutching her phone, tears streaming down her face.

"What's wrong?" William set aside the paper in alarm.

Eleanor wiped her eyes, her voice trembling. "Sophia is pregnant!"

William's hands shook, nearly dropping his glasses.

"Really?"

"Absolutely true!" Eleanor slapped her thigh excitedly. "Ethan just called!"

William's eyes instantly reddened.

He remembered Ethan lying in the ICU three years ago, barely clinging to life after the car accident.

"That boy has nine lives," William said hoarsely. "Surviving disaster brings blessings."

Eleanor cried harder. "I always said Sophia was good luck. Since she came into our family, Ethan's health has improved every day."

On the other end of the line, Ethan waited impatiently.

His grandparents were so caught up in their emotions that they'd completely forgotten about him.

With a resigned sigh, he hung up and turned to Sophia, who was putting on her coat.

"What did the doctor say?"

She folded the test results into her purse. "Everything's normal."

Ethan's lips curved upward unconsciously.

He reached out to adjust her collar, his touch as gentle as handling fragile porcelain.

"Grandmother wants us at the manor."

Sophia nodded, then gasped as he suddenly swept her into his arms.

"What are you doing?" she exclaimed.

"From now on, you're not taking a single step on your own," Ethan declared firmly.

Eleanor called again.

"Ethan, I've had the kitchen prepare bird's nest soup and all of Sophia's favorite dishes!"

Ethan chuckled. "Grandmother, the baby isn't even the size of a pea yet."

"I don't care!" Eleanor said stubbornly. "I want to tell my great-grandchild... great-granddaughter stories!"

By evening, Sullivan Manor was ablaze with lights.

Eleanor waited eagerly at the entrance, rushing forward the moment Sophia appeared.

"My precious granddaughter-in-law!" She beamed while touching Sophia's stomach. "Do you crave sour or spicy foods?"

Sophia flushed at the enthusiasm. "Either is fine."

Eleanor led her inside, chattering about parenting advice.

Ethan followed behind, his expression softer than ever before.

Dinner was filled with warmth and laughter.

Suddenly, Eleanor pulled out her senior phone. "I have to tell that old fool!"

When the call connected, she announced loudly, "You're going to be a grandfather!"

Victor Sullivan was in a board meeting.

"Mother, I'm in a meeting."

"What meeting?!" Eleanor's voice grew louder. "Sophia is pregnant!"

Victor's face darkened instantly.

Across the table, Theodore Valentine dropped his pen at the word "pregnant."

"End the call," Victor said coldly.

Eleanor stomped her foot angrily. "That ungrateful brat!"

Just as she was about to continue berating him, the doorbell rang.

A servant ushered in Victor and Adrian.

The cheerful atmosphere in the dining room froze.

Adrian greeted them politely. "Grandmother, Grandfather."

Eleanor forced a smile. "You're here."

Victor strode directly to the head of the table.

"Father, Mother, I have an announcement."

He looked at Adrian. "I've decided to have Adrian take over the company."

The air turned to ice.

Ethan's knuckles whitened around his chopsticks.

Sophia quietly grasped his hand, finding his palm cold.

William frowned. "This matter isn't urgent—"

"It is urgent," Victor interrupted. "Adrian is exceptionally capable and obedient."

His gaze flicked meaningfully to Ethan. "He won't let personal matters interfere with business."

Sophia felt Ethan's hand tighten abruptly.

Just then, sharp stiletto heels clicked across the floor.

The front door swung open.

Audrey Sullivan strode in wearing ten-centimeter heels, her black blazer radiating authority.

Slap!

She threw a stack of documents in front of Victor.

"Sign these," her red lips commanded. "The company splits in half—one part for your son, the other for mine."

Victor's face darkened. "Have you lost your mind?"

Audrey smirked. "Isn't an obedient son exactly what you wanted?"

She turned to Adrian. "I hear you're very good at following your father's orders?"

Adrian stiffened.

Then Audrey looked at Ethan, her eyes softening. "Son, your mother has your back."
