Chris sat in the car for a long time. With the window half-open, he stared at the neighborhood gate in front of him.
Just from this gate, people could tell this place was a far cry from the luxury of Spencer Villa.
Amelia used to be part of the Spencer family, and now she was living in this dump? How could she settle for such a low-class slum? What was she thinking?
His mind drifted back to everything that had just happened. Amelia had definitely changed; she actually had the nerve to lose her temper with him.
Chris should have been happy; she was finally paying for her dumb choices. But weirdly, he didn't feel that way. Instead, he felt a strange discomfort, like Amelia's stubborn, tear-filled eyes were haunting him.It was really weird.
Chris punched the steering wheel, the pain snapping him back to reality and clearing his head.
Meanwhile, at Sophía's place, Amelia was packing her stuff.
Since her address was known, she couldn't stay here anymore. She didn't want to cause trouble for Sophia.
Nina kept blowing up her phone, threatening to make a scene in the neighborhood if she didn't come out to meet her.
Amelia turned off her phone, quickly packed her things, and grabbed a
cab to the Sapphire employee dormitory. For days, Nina kept hounding her and even showed up at her workplace. Shawn saw the whole thing and chased her away.
"Your mom recognized me and got the wrong idea about us. She told me not to go after you, saying you belong to Chris, in life and death," Shawn said, looking at her with a complicated expression. "I never knew you were Chris's wife."
"We're already divorced," Amelia shot back coldly. "I don't have a husband now."
Even though Chris didn't show up on the last day of the divorce cooling-off period and the divorce request was rejected, they'd split up sooner or later.
"My mom shouldn't have said such harsh things. I'm sorry on her behalf."She looked down, avoiding Shawn's eyes.
"Do you really need to apologize for her?" Shawn said, almost laughing."Does she even deserve to be called your mom? You might not even be her real kid; otherwise, how could she treat you like this?"
Amelia was lost in her thoughts and didn't respond.
Seeing her troubled look, Shawn quickly added, "I didn't mean it like that, but you can't let her keep harassing you any more."
Amelia nodded slowly, "Yeah, I need to do something about it."
"Once you handle this, I'll take you somewhere." Worried she might refuse.Shawn quickly added, "Think of it as compensation for the mental stressT've been through, okay?"
Amelia pressed her lips together, unsure of what to say.
She contacted Nina to meet at a café near the restaurant.
Nina showed up quickly, bringing her other daughter,Karen.
As soon as they arrived, they started laying into Amelia, insisting she go back to Chris and apologize.
"Damn it, I should've let Karen marry Chris back then. At least she's smart enough to win a man's heart!" Nina's voice was sharp, each word cutting into Amelia.
"Yeah, why was it me back then?" Amelia sneered, looking up at them.
Suddenly, she noticed that Nina and Karen's postures were identical, and their facial features and expressions were eerily similar.
Shawn's words from that day kept replaying in her head. "Because I wanted you to have a future, to revive our family. Who could have thought you were so useless, unable to handle such an easy case, and now ending up divorced."
"Amelia, I'm telling you, no matter what you do, even if you have to beg him,you must make him retract his decision. Otherwise, if you get divorced, I'll marry you off to the old man!" Nina pointed at her nose, her voice getting louder.
"Karen and I are both your daughters," Amelia said in a low voice.
Nina laúghed exaggeratedly, her expression almost comical. "How can you compare to my daughter? You're just..."
Before she coud finish, Karen yanked her sleeve hard.
Nina's face darkened, and she immediately frowned with regret, but the unfinished half of her sentence still lingered in Amelia's mind.
So her guess was not wrong. Then everything made sense.
Nina said, "What are you thinking? I've raised you for so many years and provided you with excellent material conditions. What more could you possibly want? Right now, you need to pull yourself together and seriously think about how to win back Mr. Spencer's heart!"
"We're already divorced," Amelia said, her gaze depressed and calm."I won't be with him again, and I won't be coerced by you anymore."
With that, she stood up and walked out, leaving Nina and Karen in shock.
"Stop!" Karen shouted, gritting her teeth in anger. "How can you be so ungrateful? Mom is doing this for your own good. Mr. Spencer is such an excellent man. What kind of man can you find after leaving him? Do you really want to be a second wife to an old man?"
"If you think he's perfect, why don't you marry him?" Amelia's voice was calm and cold.
Karen's face froze, filled with shame and anger. Did she not want to marry Chris? In the entire Pinecrest elite circle, no unmarried woman didn't like Chris. He was practically perfect, like a dream lover.
Karen once used her identity as Amelia's sister to seduce Chris with her naked body. She still remembered Chris's disdainful look and words.
"Where did you get the confidence to think you could compare to Amelia? If you don't want your body to be found in the sea the next day, get out."
Karen thought, 'Amelia, that bitch, had Chris's immense favor but didn't
know how to cherish it!
Karen seethed with resentment: "If it weren't for Chris's grandfather forcing him to marry you, do you think with your lowly status, he would even look at you?"
Nina also shouted, "Amelia, you bitch, how dare you mock Karen?"
"Watch your language. This is a high-end place. Someone might have already recorded your disgraceful behavior and is ready to post it online, ruining your reputation."
With that, Amelia took ouat her phone, which was recording, and waved it lightly. Then she said calmly, "I have nothing to lose now. If you make my life difficult, I won't show you any mercy."
She had rehearsed these words countless times in her mind. As long as she managed to overcome the fear in her mind, she believed she could overcome any challenge.
Nina and Karen looked at her with extreme shock. They were probably wondering how the once timid Amelia, who didn't even dare to cry when bullied, had become like this.
"Besídes, consider the two billion dollarsas repayment for raising me.From today on, we are done with each other." With that, Amelia left coldly.
Nina and Karen exchanged glances, both seeing deep shock in each other's eyes.
Nina snapped, "Bitch, how dare she threaten me!"
"Mom,what do we do now?" Karen asked, unwilling to give up.
Nina said, "Don't worry; I'll handle this. Do you think she can escape my control?"
