Amelia froze, her eyes instinctively darting to Chris.
He was leaning there, staring at her with a look that could kill, his thoughts a complete mnystery.
After a moment, she slowly walked over and sat next to Victor, making sure to keep her distance from Chris.
She didn't want to set him off.
"Come closer. It's thanks to you taking care of Chris day and night that he woke up," Victor, still strong despite his age, grabbed the armrest of her chair and pulled it over with her in it.
Amelia almost lost her balance and looked up in a panic, meeting Chris's mocking eyes.
He was staring at her again, like he wanted to eat her alive.
"Grandpa, I didn't really do much. He woke up because of his own willpower," she quickly looked away, not wanting to mneet those terrifying eyes.
Victor, however, looked very pleased, watching them with satisfaction."Everyone says you two aren't right for each other. They just don't see what I see. Look at you now, you're perfect together. I hope you two can get along well and don't repeat the previous mistakes."
Amelia's face stiffened, but she still nodded.
After finally seeing Victor off, Amelia stood outside the door, avoiding being alone with Chris.
"I want some water," Chris suddenly shouted.
Amelia instinctively responded, "Coming."
She felt confused. Why was she so obedient to him?
Maybe she had already been influenced by him.
Amelia kept telling herself that this was just a way to repay a favor.
She poured him a glass of warm water and thoughtfully prepared some snacks and fruit.
Chris glanced at her lazily and suddenly asked, "Who saved you back then?
The question was as casual as asking about the weather.
Amelia blurted out without thinking, "Mr. Howard's people."
No sooner were the words spoken than she realized her mistake.
But once the words were out, they couldn't be taken back.
The room instantly felt like it dropped ten degrees.
Chris squinted his eyes, looking at her with a dangerous glint. "When did you start hooking up with him? He even set up such a big plan for you?"
Amelia felt like a sword was hanging over her head, not knowing when it would fall and take her life.
"I didn't," her voice trembled.
Knowing that explaining was futile, she still couldn't help it.
"Oh,did you?" Chris's gaze grew darker, "Then why would he help you to this extent? Did you sleep with him?"
"Bullshit!" Amelia's cheeks flushed with anger, "I didn't!"
She could endure his humiliation towards herself, but she couldn't tolerate him insulting others, especially Lueius, who had helped her many times.
"You're protective of him. What's so good about him? He saved you because he was there waiting to see the drama between you and me. You foolishly think he really cares about you. He's just using you,you idiot!"He was already losing his temper.
"So what?" Amelia gritted her teeth, shouting angrily, "At least he didn't hurt me."
Chris was stunned, silent for a moment before saying,"With your limited understanding, someone could swindle you, and you'd still thank them."
"If you keep talking nonsense, I'll leave." Amelia turned her back to him, showing her determination, "I have already done my duty by taking care of you these days. Besides, I didn't ask you to save me back then."
She was devastated; every word he said was like a dagger to her heart.
"Amelia!" Chris's face turned pale, each word cutting deeper, "Even a dog knows to wag its tail at the person who gives it a bone."
"But I'm not a dog." Amelia smiled bitterly, "If you want a dog, there are plenty outside."
She had become numb to such venomous words. Why did she still harbor hope?
Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her shoulder.
She was startled and instinctively turned around, only to see him pounce from the bed, already standing behind her.
His eyes were deep, filled with a terrifying cold light.
His hand was gripping her shoulder, almost crushing it.
"What did you say?" He stared at her intently.
Amelia's heart tightened immediately.
A dull pain came over her, making her breathless.
His face was pale, his body visibly trembling.
Amelia was worried, "Your wounds haven't healed yet, how can you get out of bed?"
As she spoke, she had supported his arm, trying to help him back to bed.
The hospital gown on his thigh was soaked with blood from his wound, and his chest was also faintly bleeding.
"Are you worried about me?" Chris's lips curved slightly.
"Stop talking, you're bleeding. Lie down, I'll get the doctor to change your dressing."
"You change it for me!" Chris grabbed her arm, not letting her go,his attitude particularly harsh.
Amelia frowned, "How can I do that? I'm not a nurse."
"You do it." Chris used a commanding tone, "Didn't you always want to
look after me? I'm giving you a chance, don't be ungrateful."
"But I'm afraid of hurting you." Amelia was helpless. "Why don't you let the doctor change it? I'm concerned I'll..." She wasn't a professional nurse;what if something went wrong?
"Cut the crap." His voice trembled, carrying an undeniable authority.
At this point, why was he still putting on airs?
Amelia had no choice but to brace herself.
She first unbuttoned his shirt. The wounds on his upper body weren't too severe, mostly superficial, but there was a deep one under his armpit near his ribs, the wound a shocking black-red, exuding a bloody smell.
Was this a shark bite?
Amelia could almost imagine the scene of him fighting a shark. She didn't know how he survived.
The words she had just said seemed excessive.
"Are you dead?" Chris impatiently scolded, urging her to hurry up.
Amelia quickly used iodine cotton to clean the bloodstain around his wound.
Even though she was extremely careful, when her hand touched his body.he gasped, showing a suppressed look of pain.
"Sorry, are you okay?" Her eyes turned red, her voice weak.
Chris looked at her, inexplicably feeling she had returned to how she was when she wasn't asking for a divorce, when she wasn't trying to leave him.
"Not dead." He said gruffly, "Hurry up, don't waste time."
Amelia didn't argue, being even more careful and cautious, finally changing the dressing on his upper body.
But he had another wound on his leg, more severe, which was close to his groin.
Amelia tried to cut his pants but found it would be easier to just take them off.
If she accidentally cut something she shouldn't, it would be very embarrassing.
"What about calling the nurse to change the dressing here?" She asked.
