Chapter 37: Chapter 37

To keep herself safe, Amelia spent a night shaking with fear before calling Victor, offering to cook him a meal.

Victor was thrilled. He showed up early in the morning, even before Chris was awake.

"Grandpa, have some fruit first. The salmon you like will be ready soon,"Amelia said, her smile as bright as a blooming flower. She handed Victor some fruit and snacks before rushing into the kitchen.

"Amelia!" Chris's angry voice suddenly boomed from the second-floor bedroom.

Even in the kitchen, Amelia could hear the fury in his tone.

She pretended not to hear it.

The next moment, Victor's authoritative voice rang out, "What are you yelling for? Get up quickly!"

Amelia felt a bit relieved. Thank goodness.

"Chris, whay aren't you in the hospital? What are you doing back here?"Victor asked, clearly annoyed, as he sat at the dining table.

Chris's face was cold, his eyes fixed on Amelia like she was prey.

Amelia ignored him, focusing on serving dishes to Victor. "Grandpa, it's a bit hot, be careful. Also, try these broccoli and green beans. The vegetables are good for your health."

Victor smiled warmly at her but turned serious when he looked at Chris."

Answer me, are you mute? In your condition, coming back here is just asking for trouble."

"The hospital is boring," Chris muttered, his expression almost twisted."Grandpa, what brings you here?"

He shot a sharp glance at Amelia, who was quietly eating.

"What, I'm not welcome?" Victor snorted.

"Grandpa, after breakfast, how about we go for a walk? I haven't been out in a while," Amelia suggested sweetly, her eyes sparkling.

Victor was glad to go, but his next words left Amelia stunned.

"Chris, since you don't want to stay in the hospital, you should come with us. Whatever Amelia likes, you buy it for her," he decided with a wave of his hand.

Amelia was speechless.No!

"Sure," Chris finally smiled, but it was a dangerous smile, like a snake ready to strike.

"Grandpa, his body hasn't fully recovered. Going out might not be a good idea," Amelia cautiously advised.

"No problem,I can walk just fine," Chris said, raising an eyebrow, a clear challenge in his eyes.

"Don't worry, he's strong. And we can bring a doctor along." Victor laughed heartily.

Amelía's face turned pale, but she couldn't argue with Victor and was forced to go shopping with the two of them.

It was really uncomfortable.

Soon, they arrived at the nearest mall, which had been cleared out, leaving only smiling salespeople giving them strange looks.

Amelia even thought it would be better if Leila were here; at least she could divert some attention.

"Amelia, do you want to buy some clothes? This store looks nice," Victor pointed to a nearby women's clothing store and asked.

Amelia wanted to say no, but then she remembered she'd been to this store before, and it had a row of big fitting rooms.

"Sure, let's check it out," she said, trying to sound enthusiastic.

She used the excuse of trying on clothes to hide in one of the fitting rooms.

The moment she sat down, she finally felt a bit of relief, even if it was just for a few seconds.

Should she make a run for it, or fake being sick and leave right away?

Chris was definitely planning something today.

"Amelía, are you done changing?" Victor's voice suddenly called out.

Amelia jumped, quickly got up, and hurriedly put on the fiery red dress.

But she couldn't zip up the back.

"Excuse me, miss, could you come in and help me with the zipper?" she asked the salesperson outside the curtain.

Before long, someone came in.

Amelia heard the sound and said, "Please help me, I can't reach the top."

Then, a large hand held her waist, and another hand slowly pulled the zipper up.

But the touch felt oddly intimate.

Amelia suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.

That instinctive sense of danger kicked in.

She turned around instinctively.

Sure enough, she met Chris's intense gaze.

Chris was looking down at her, leisurely, with a mocking smile, like a predator eyeing its prey.

The cramped fitting room felt even smaller with the two of them in it.leaving her no room to escape.

"Why are you here? This is the women's fitting room," Amelia's voice trembled, and the color drained from her face.

Chris raised an eyebrow and said indifferently, "So what?"

His demeanor was like that of a king.

Without another word, Amelia tried to slip past him.

But he easily grabbed her and pinned her against the wall.

"Trying to run?" His figure loomed over her like a giantmonster."Amelia,I thought you had some guts."

He gradually closed in, trapping her in his arms, forming a narrow

enclosure. No matter how she struggled, she couldn't escape.

"What are you doing? Grandpa is still outside, and there are other people.Do you want them to see this?" Amelia's eyes were frantic, like a helpless fawn.

"He's already gone," Chris grinned maliciously. "I sent him away."

Amelia was freaked out.

It was over.

"How should I deal with you for what happened last night?" Chris's voice was low and magnetic, exuding extreme danger. "Now, you have nowhere to run."

"It has nothing to do with me," Amelia gritted her teeth, each word difficult to utter. "It was you who..."

Before she could finish, he grabbed her by the throat.

Fortunately, he didn't use much force, and the gesture was more of a threat than an actual attempt to harm her.

"Then kill me, and we'll be even," she grabbed his hand with both of hers, trying desperately to pry it off, but it was futile.

He watched her struggle with interest, finding it amusing. Amelia had transformed from a timid mouse into a bold eagle over time.

He wanted to see what else she could become.

"Chris, do you have feelings for me?" She had a sudden idea and put on a delighted expression,

Her voice and demeanor were just like the old her.

Chris squinted his eyes, a flash of disgust passing through them.

He immediately let go of her throat.

Amelia, feeling as if she had been granted a reprieve, didn't think twice and pushed him away to run.
