Jared's face turned sour instantly. "Twenty percent of the shares? They sure have some nerve!"
Stella chimed in, "No way, Chris. We're strapped for cash right now.We can't just pull a hundred million dollars out of thin air."
Even if they could, there was no way they'd hand it over to that witch,Amelia.
"Oh, really?" Chris raised an eyebrow and shot a look at Jared. "Is that how you see it too?"
Jared's face was tight, and after a moment of silence, he seemed to make up his mind. "Fine, I agree to the hundred million."
In his mind, losing money was a lot better than crossing Chris.
Soon enough, a hundred million dollars was wired to Amelia's account.
"You're a billionaire now. Aren't you gonna treat me to a meal?" Chris lounged back, his eyes driftng over Amelia's slender back.
She stood with her back to him, gazing out from the 88th floor, her long hair cascading over her shoulders, looking gorgeous.
"A billionaire at the cost of half my life, and you are shameless to ask me to treat you." Amelia turned around coolly and sat down in front of him.
"Have they figured out what happened this time?" she asked, munching on some fruit.
Chris pursed his lips, his voice cold. "I sent people out. We'll have answers
by tonight at the latest."
He paused and added, "Don't worry, this is downtown. No matter how powerful those criminals are, they don't have the courage toact wildly here.
He thought Amelia was worried about her safety.
Little did he know, Amelia was more curious about who the woman was that those people were after during the incident.
Chris got up and put his arm around her shoulder, leading her out. "Let's go grab a bite."
"What exactly happened back then, and who was the woman they were looking for? Chris, I know you know, and I don't want you to lie to me or hide anything." Sitting in the car, Amelia couldn't hold back her suspicion anymore.
"She was Larry Moore's lover. She ran away." Chris gave her a deep look, his gaze darkening. "This woman is from ouir country, very unusual, and Larry is crazy about her."
"Who's Larry?" Amelia asked, intrigued.
Chris lowered his eyes, thinking for a moment. "He's the behind-the-scenes boss of eighty percent of the underground casinos in Celestria. A very capable and powerful guy with a lot of connections."
"I see." Amelia was thoughtful.
Larry was so rich and powerful, why did his lover leave him?
"She must be charming," she said.
Chris raised an eyebrow. "A bit better than you. I've heard she embodies the beauty of our country, driving Larry nuts. He spent a fortune to buy the most famous building in Celestria for her and even planned to marry her,"
"But Larry wasn't charming enough to keep his beloved lover. He's a loser." Amelia elegantly sipped her coffee and spoke indifferently.
Chris was taken aback; he didn't expect her insight to be so remarkable.
Larry couldn't keep his lover. What about him?
He gazed pensively at Amelia. At this moment, the golden sunset lightly enveloped her, as if casting a golden radiance over her. His gaze lingered on her until she waved her hand in front of him a few times, snapping him out of it. He coughed to cover up his distraction.
"What are you thinking? Your eyes look weird." She walked over and leaned on the sofa chair, her slender hand resting on his shoulder, full of grace and allure.
Chris's eyes darkened, and he suddenly yanked her into his arms with a force that felt like iron clamps holding her tight.
"What the hell are you doing? Let go of me, you creep!" Amelia shouted, struggling in panic and glaring at him angrily when she got the chance.
Chris didn't get mad; instead, he laughed, the ice in his eyes melting, showing a side of him she hadn't seen before.
He sat up straight, just about to force a kiss on her when his phone rang.It was Ryder.
"Mr. Spencer, we've got the guy, but he's talking weird.I think you need
to come and question him yourself."
"Got it, send me the address," Chris said coldly, then turned to Amelia."
We've caught the culprit. Want to come with me to check it out?"
"Sure," Amelia said, slipping out of his arms.
That evening, they arrived at a rundown motel in the suburbs.
Ryder had locked the guy in the basemenit, which was dark and cramped. As soon as they walked in, they were hit with the strong scent of dust and a nasty smell of smoke.
Amelia covered her mouth and nose, following Chris inside.
She immediately saw a burly man tied to a sofa chair in the middle of the room.
The guy's face was covered in scars, his eyes swollen, and his neck, shoulders, and arms were all messed up,reeking of blood.
Amelia suppressed her disgust, still covering her mouth and nose.
"Wake him up," Chris ordered.
With a blank expression, Ryder walked over, grabbed the man's dirty hair, and slapped him hard twice.
With two loud smacks, the burly man lost two molars, his face swelling up even more.
He woke up, saw Ryder who had captured him, and gritted his teeth in anger, spouting curses,
But when he looked up and saw Amelia, he froze, then was shocked,
trembling as he said, "Molly, Molly."
He stared at Amelia, his gaze sharp, as if trying to pierce through her.
Amelia was very confused. What was this guy saying?
"What are you saying?" Chris glanced at the man, his body radiating cold air.
But the burly man still stared at Amelia, saying, "You must go back to Larry,or more people will be dragged into this, and more people will die."
Amelia understood the language of Celestria, but she didn't get the meaning of his words.
"Shut him up!" Chris ordered coldly. Then he took Amelia and walked out.
Amelia was puzzled, but through his attitude and the man's expression, she started to piece things together.
"We're heading back to our country tonight," Chris said through gritted teeth.
Amelia was more convincedof her thoughts, following him silently.
They booked the last flight of the day, drove to the airport overnight, with a total of three cars. They were in the middle one, the other two cars were full of bodyguards.
On the way, Chris kept holding her hand.
Amelía stayed silent.
She was thinking, how could it be such a coincidence that the woman who escaped from Larry looked so much like her?
She didn't dare to think further, afraid of discovering something more terrifying.
"Even you have someone you're scared of?" Amelia teased in a low voice, seeing him so tense.
"Scared of him? Me?" Chris sneered.
"We're almost at the airport, don't be nervous." Amelia tried to pull her hand out, but he held it tighter.
Amelia was helpless and didn't bother to struggle. She subconsciously glanced at the dark sky outside, feeling a storm was coming.
At the same time, she was also thinking, what kind of person could make someone as fearless as Chris so wary?
