Jenna emerged from her bedroom dressed and found Milo curled up on the couch watching TV.
"Sis, you stayed up so late last night. Why are you up so early?" Milo looked up in surprise.
She sat beside him and recounted everything about recognizing a gang leader as her sworn brother at the club.
"He invited us to lunch at his place today," she added.
Milo's brows knitted together. "Is he genuinely treating you as a sister or does he have ulterior motives?"
That club was a shady place, and he couldn't help feeling uneasy.
"He's from the underworld." Jenna chuckled. "At first I thought he was bad news too, but he's actually been really kind to me. That night he not only gave me money for late-night snacks but also ordered the most expensive liquor in the club."
"What?" Milo nearly jumped up. "Underworld? Are you insane?"
"Don't judge by appearances." Jenna glared. "He's been genuinely good to me."
"You just said he seemed shady!" Milo scoffed. "Talk about double standards."
She rolled her eyes. "I trust him. Are you coming or not?"
"I'm still worried he might have bad intentions."
"Oh, by the way, his wife is pregnant and currently on bed rest."
"...Fine." Milo reluctantly nodded.
Jenna's lips twitched. "Unbelievable. I'm going to wash up."
After finishing her makeup, they took a cab straight to the Malibu Beach House.
During the ride, Jenna first called Ethan. "Mr. Roscente, my brother and I are going out for lunch today. Please arrange your own meal."
"Mmm." The icy response came through before the line went dead.
She rubbed her arms. Ethan had always been like this—she should be used to it by now.
Next, she dialed Officer Hill. "Officer Hill, could you help me check a license plate number?"
"Why do you need that?" His tone turned stern.
Jenna tightened her grip on her phone. She knew the request was presumptuous, but for safety's sake, she had to verify this gang leader's identity.
