Jenna's hand trembled slightly as she clutched her phone.
The moment the kitchen door closed, she lowered her voice. "Boss, what did you do to Sophia?"
"Nothing much." Tristan Ashcroft's tone was eerily light. "Just chopped off one of her fingers and broke her leg."
Jenna's vision darkened. She nearly lost her balance.
Sophia had lost a finger? And her leg was broken?
She sucked in a sharp breath. Tristan was even more ruthless than she'd imagined.
But then again, Sophia deserved it. How dare she use Tristan's money to support her young lover? She was practically begging for death.
"Is she... still alive?" Jenna's voice tightened.
"Dead?" Tristan let out a cold laugh. "Trash like her doesn't get to die that easily."
A chill ran down Jenna's spine. His voice was like ice.
Now she truly understood the terrifying consequences of crossing someone like him.
After hanging up, Jenna leaned against the wall to steady herself.
She needed to save up enough money and leave this place as soon as possible. Otherwise, she might be the next one to suffer.
Taking a deep breath, Jenna carried the dishes out of the kitchen.
"Milo, Mr. Roscente, dinner's ready." She forced herself to sound calm.
Ethan glanced at the simple home-cooked meal, his brow lifting slightly.
Though the dishes were ordinary, they inexplicably whetted his appetite.
Milo silently handed him a bowl of rice.
The dining table was so quiet that only the clinking of utensils could be heard.
Midway through the meal, Ethan suddenly spoke. "I know a surgeon."
Both siblings looked up.
"Liam Melford," Ethan said casually. "When you've saved enough, he can perform the surgery."
Jenna's hand jerked, nearly dropping her chopsticks.
Liam Melford? The medical prodigy?
She'd researched him before. His waiting list stretched six months long, and the surgery fees were astronomical.
"You... know Dr. Melford?" Her voice shook.
Ethan gave a nonchalant nod. "A colleague of mine is close with him."
Jenna's heart raced. This might be Milo's only chance at survival.
