Jenna Roland entered the private room arm-in-arm with her father Victor Roland. Fiona Roland and her family were already seated around the round table.
"Jenna's here!" Fiona beamed with exaggerated warmth.
Jason and Heidi immediately stood up, pulling out a chair for her with excessive courtesy.
Jenna's brows furrowed slightly. Alarm bells rang in her mind.
These people usually greeted her with either cold sarcasm or outright indifference. Their sudden hospitality reeked of ulterior motives.
Heidi poured her a cup of black tea with exaggerated care.
Jenna tapped the rim of the cup lightly before meeting Fiona's flushed face. "Had good luck at the tables, Aunt Fiona?"
"Just a small win." Fiona's grin stretched ear to ear. "Only about ten grand."
Jenna smirked inwardly.
For this compulsive gambler, winning five figures was indeed cause for celebration.
The door swung open as Sean Roland strode in with his long legs.
"Sean?" Jenna stood up in surprise.
He took the seat beside her without ceremony. "Dad mentioned Aunt Fiona was treating. I happened to be free."
Victor glanced around. "Have we ordered yet?"
"Already taken care of." Fiona suddenly changed the subject. "Jenna, I heard you got married recently?"
Jenna nodded calmly. "Already divorced."
She braced for the expected snide remarks, but was met with unusual silence.
Fiona forced a chuckle. "Young people have plenty of opportunities."
Heidi leaned forward eagerly. "Did you two... live together?"
"No." Jenna eyed her suspiciously.
Fiona and Heidi exchanged a look of barely concealed delight.
This answer clearly pleased them immensely.
Waiters began serving the meal. Jenna's lips curled at the meager spread.
For a restaurant famed for seafood, only a single sea bass graced the table.
Sean suddenly stopped a departing waiter. "Do you have lobster?"
"Yes, sir." The waiter bowed slightly. "We have both Australian lobster and Caribbean spiny lobster available."
