Patrick Klein's words struck Jenna Roland like a thunderbolt. Her pupils constricted sharply. Unconsciously, her fingernails dug into her palms.
"His last name is Valois?" Her voice tightened. "Lucien Valois?"
Patrick looked surprised. "You know him?"
Jenna suppressed the storm raging inside her. Her expression remained neutral. "We've met once. Not close."
She never expected Lucien Valois to appear here. Coincidence or calculated move? Stella Laurent's warning call echoed in her mind. If he was really targeting her...
A cold sweat broke out on the back of her neck. This meant he had already investigated her thoroughly—even knew her workplace.
"Can someone else go instead?" she blurted out.
Patrick frowned. "Why?"
"I don't want to." Her tone was final.
The air froze. It was the first time she'd refused an assignment.
"Mr. Valois isn't an ordinary client." Patrick lowered his voice. "Offend him, and our entire club suffers." His gaze turned pleading. "Do this for me."
Jenna clenched her fists. The image of Lucien Valois keeping Sylvia Savigny as his mistress stabbed her heart. She couldn't give him any opportunity.
"Let someone else try first." She stood firm. "Come to me only if it's absolutely necessary."
Patrick studied her for a long moment before turning away.
Jenna immediately called Stella. "Lucien Valois is here. Get your sister over now."
"He actually investigated you?" Stella's voice trembled. "I'll contact her right away."
As Jenna hung up and prepared to leave, Chloe Blanchet pushed the door open.
