Jenna Roland rubbed her temples, trying to recall. "Uncle Victor invited me to discuss the orchard transfer today. After dinner, I was about to ride my e-bike home when I suddenly felt dizzy and weak."
Her voice trembled slightly. "When they saw me unsteady, they insisted on taking me to the hospital. But after getting in the car, I blacked out. The next thing I knew, I woke up in that room..."
Ethan Roscente's gaze turned icy, the air around him chilling. "Your uncle sold you out?"
"I'm not sure," Jenna bit her lip. "But the man at the hotel said he bought me from Brian Durrant. I just don’t understand why I ended up there."
"Find out." Ethan's tone was frigid.
"I will." Jenna clenched her fists. If her own family had betrayed her, she wouldn’t hold back.
The elevator reached the lobby. Three suited executives trailed behind Ethan, exchanging uneasy glances.
"Here for an inspection?" Jenna glanced at the men behind him.
"Yes." Ethan remained expressionless. "There’s an issue with the hotel’s plumbing system. Brought the team to check it."
The executives' eyes widened. They were here for an acquisition meeting! Since when had it turned into a plumbing inspection? And why was their CEO lying so blatantly?
Jenna nodded. "I’ll go retrieve my bike then."
As she walked away, Ethan turned and pressed the elevator button. The executives stayed silent, not daring to ask a single question.
Mayo Clinic, VIP Ward.
Justin Kemnis lay bruised and swollen on the hospital bed, an IV drip attached to his left arm. Beside him stood an imposing middle-aged man—Deputy Mayor Hugo Valence.
"What happened?" Hugo frowned. He’d rushed over after receiving his brother’s frantic call.
Justin’s eyes reddened instantly. "Brother! Someone nearly crippled me! You have to make them pay!"
"Who did this?" Hugo’s voice dropped dangerously. No one in Los Angeles dared lay a finger on his family.
