Jenna Roland pushed open the hospital room door to find Sylvia Savigny alone inside.
Sylvia's eyes flew open, filled with terror. Only when she recognized the visitor did her tense shoulders relax.
"It's you." Sylvia exhaled sharply.
Jenna hurried to the bedside. "Did those men in black come back?"
Sylvia shook her head, fingers absently twisting the blanket edge. "I keep fearing they'll appear suddenly."
Jenna pulled up a chair, her gaze lingering on Sylvia's bandaged arms. "Can you tell me exactly what happened?"
Sylvia recounted the kidnapping ordeal in a trembling voice. By the end, her words had faded to a whisper.
"Yvonne Valois won't let me go." Sylvia gave a bitter smile. "Not even if I flee to the ends of the earth."
Jenna clenched her fists. "Just because she has power and influence?"
"We can't fight her." Sylvia's eyes dimmed. "I just want Stella to be safe."
Jenna suddenly stood. "I have a friend at the police station. Maybe he can help."
"It's useless." Sylvia shook her head. "Even Lucien Valois couldn't protect me, let alone..."
"Then we'll use public opinion!" Jenna's eyes lit up. "Expose her crimes online."
Sylvia froze. "That..."
"I'll make a call." Jenna strode toward the door. "Rest for now."
In the hallway, Jenna dialed Liam Hill's number. Before the call connected, she glanced back at the closed door.
Through the glass window, Sylvia lay staring blankly at the ceiling.
