Chapter 39: Chapter 39

At 6:40 p.m., Jenna Roland hurried into Studio 54, her heels clicking against the pavement. The glass doors reflected her slightly weary figure.

The lounge was already packed. Stella Laurent shot her a pointed look, signaling she was late.

"Sorry, I took a nap this afternoon," Jenna murmured, shoving her bag into a locker.

Patrick Klein clapped his hands, calling everyone for the daily briefing. After the meeting, Jenna was scheduled as the last performer.

Sophia Merouin lounged beside her, crossing her legs. Her red nail polish gleamed garishly under the lights.

"Word is, you're quite popular with the clients lately," Sophia said, her voice dripping with envy.

Jenna kept her eyes on her phone. "Just trying to make a living."

Sophia's phone rang. When she hung up, her gaze turned sharp.

"Jenna," she hissed, leaning closer. "The boss keeps mentioning you."

Jenna finally looked up, a faint smirk playing on her lips. "And?"

"Stay away from him." Sophia gritted her teeth. "Don't think I don't know what you're up to."

Jenna scoffed and returned to her phone. She'd heard these empty warnings too many times.

Patrick pushed the door open. "Jenna, a client in Room 204 requested you."

"Who is it?"

"Said he's your brother," Patrick added. "Same guy as last time."

Jenna frowned. What was Sean Roland doing here again? And with friends?

The door to Room 204 was slightly ajar. Jenna took a deep breath and stepped inside.

The room was hazy with smoke. Sean sat in the center, flanked by two unfamiliar men puffing on cigarettes.

"You're here." Sean waved her over. "These are my colleagues, Cheng Feng and Zheng Haocheng."

Zheng Haocheng immediately stood and extended his hand. "I've heard so much about you."

Jenna gave a reluctant handshake, recoiling at the clammy sweat on his palm.

"Your sister's even prettier than in the photos," Cheng Feng whistled. "Sean, you've been hiding her well."

Sean smacked the back of his head. "Keep your thoughts clean."

"What would you like to drink?" Jenna cut in, ending their banter.

"Three cases of Budweiser," Sean said. "Don't go overboard."

Jenna nodded and slipped out. The hallway lights flickered as she rubbed her temples.

When she returned with the drinks, Sean was gone. Cheng Feng held her brother's phone, grinning oddly.

"Where's Sean?" Jenna set the tray down.

Cheng Feng waved the phone. "Taking a call." His eyes raked over her. "Hey, can I get your number?"

Jenna took a step back, her spine pressing against the cold wall.
