Jenna Roland's knuckles turned white as she gripped her phone. Victor Roland's curses screeched through the receiver.
"That orchard was never meant to be yours!"
"You bitch! Your whole family should die!"
Jenna smirked. "I'll return those words to you. Victor, you're the one who deserves an early grave."
She ended the call with a sharp swipe of her finger.
Milo Roland looked up from his phone. "What's Victor ranting about now?"
"Trouble at the orchard." Jenna tossed her phone onto the market stall. "He thinks I'm behind it."
Ryan Watson leaned closer. "What kind of trouble?"
Jenna checked the time. Lunch hour approached. She stood. "Hungry? I'll grab us some food."
Ryan's eyes lit up. "Starving." He scratched his head sheepishly. "Only had water this morning."
Jenna understood. Since his parents' divorce, the boy often skipped breakfast.
"Wait here." She grabbed her wallet and left.
The aroma of cooked food wafted from nearby restaurants. Jenna ordered three dishes and soup, paid, and returned.
Soon, steaming containers arrived. Jenna unfolded a new collapsible table and waved the boys over.
"Tanya, join us?" She called to the neighboring stall.
Tanya Hill shook her head. "You go ahead."
Jenna picked up her chopsticks when her phone rang again. Ethan Roscente's name flashed on screen. Her lips curved unconsciously.
"Eating now," she said brightly. "You?"
Ethan's deep voice rumbled through the line. "Was hoping to take you to lunch."
"Next time." She speared a piece of braised pork. "I'll cook for you tonight."
"Don't just make my favorites." He paused. "Cook something you like too."
After hanging up, Jenna took two bites before another unknown number called.
She frowned at the screen. Not Victor. Who then?
"Hello, who's this?"
