Chapter 493: Chapter 493

The fluorescent lights in the hospital corridor were harsh. Sophie Roscente gently pushed open the door to the VIP ward. Inside, Jenna Roland cradled the baby, humming a soft lullaby. The infant slept soundly, cheeks flushed pink.

"I should head home now, sis," Sophie whispered.

Jenna looked up with a tired smile. "Be careful on the road."

Outside the hospital, Sophie pulled out her phone and dialed Vanessa Galatea.

A red sports car soon pulled up at the entrance.

"Need a ride home?" Vanessa rolled down the window.

Sophie slid into the passenger seat. "Thanks."

As they merged onto the main road, Vanessa suddenly spoke. "You actually call her 'sister-in-law' now?"

Sophie's fingers paused on the seatbelt buckle. "She is my brother's wife."

"She's not good enough for Ethan." Vanessa's knuckles whitened around the steering wheel.

Sophie turned to face her. "Vanessa, my brother is happy. Jenna takes great care of the family. Even Grandpa Harrison and Grandma Blanche adore her."

"Such an act!" Vanessa slammed the brakes. "She's just a gold digger!"

Sophie frowned. "She didn't know about the Roscente family's status when they got married."

"What does that matter?" Vanessa sneered. "I've loved Ethan since we were kids. How dare she steal him from me?"

"You can't force feelings." Sophie sighed. "With your looks and background—"

"Help me." Vanessa cut her off. "Make them divorce."

Sophie's eyes widened. "Are you insane? They have a child together!"

Vanessa's expression darkened. "Fine. Forget I asked."

Without warning, she signaled and pulled over. "Change of plans. You'll need to find your own ride."

Sophie blinked. "But taxis never come to this area—"

"Not my problem." The door locks clicked open.

Sophie inhaled sharply and shoved the door open. Cold wind rushed in as she stepped onto the curb without looking back.

The sports car roared away, exhaust fumes hitting Sophie's face.

She took out her phone and blocked Vanessa's number across all platforms.

Three days later, the VIP ward was unusually quiet. Ethan had left to handle an urgent corporate project. Grandpa Harrison had spiked a fever, keeping Grandma Blanche at home. Grace and Benjamin Roscente were attending a relative's birthday celebration, leaving only Jenna and the baby.

When the nurse came for rounds, Jenna sat staring out the window. Sunlight filtered through the glass, casting fractured patterns across her pale face.
