Jenna and Milo's gazes simultaneously landed on Grandpa Harrison.
Jenna blinked. "Excuse me?"
Grandpa Harrison cleared his throat awkwardly. "It's more fragrant than Ethan's mother's cooking."
Grandma Blanche smiled and explained, "Ethan's mother's maiden name is Chu."
The room fell silent.
Ethan frowned, shooting the elderly couple an exasperated look.
Since when did his mother change her surname?
These two were getting increasingly ridiculous in their attempts to please Jenna.
Noticing Ethan's stare, Grandma Blanche glared back. "What are you looking at?"
Ethan silently averted his gaze.
Better not provoke her.
Jenna broke the awkward silence. "Grandpa, Grandma, why don't you taste it first?"
Grandma Blanche's expression instantly softened when she turned to Jenna—a stark contrast to how she'd just looked at Ethan.
The blatant favoritism made Ethan question his place in the family.
He might as well be adopted. Jenna was clearly the biological grandchild here.
"Of course." Grandma Blanche picked up her chopsticks, serving Jenna and Milo each a braised pork knuckle before adding cola chicken wings to their bowls.
Milo had been eyeing the chicken wings hungrily but restrained himself out of respect for the elders.
Now that the wings were in his bowl, he took an eager bite.
His sister's cola chicken wings were always perfection.
A sudden thought struck him—if he were really gone someday, he'd never taste this again.
To keep enjoying his sister's cooking, he had to survive. No matter what.
Grandpa Harrison shared Ethan's picky palate.
Even professional chefs rarely met his exacting standards at home.
Yet Jenna's cooking exceeded all expectations.
He shocked everyone by eating three bowls of rice at lunch—so much that he ended up patting his full stomach with satisfied burps.
"Jenna, who taught you to cook like this?" Grandpa Harrison asked warmly.
Jenna shook her head. "Self-taught. I started cooking at twelve, with occasional tips from my mom."
Grandpa Harrison's eyes shone with admiration. "You could open a restaurant with these skills. I'd be your most loyal customer."
Jenna smiled. "For you, Grandpa, it's always free."
Grandpa Harrison laughed heartily. "Now this is what I call a thoughtful granddaughter. Unlike some ungrateful people I know."
