Chapter 146: Chapter 146

146 She's Driving Me Insane!

Evelyn finished her glass of water and stared at Alexander in disbelief. "How can you possibly eat that? It's unbearably salty! You have to stop."

She glanced back at the omelet, her forehead wrinkled in a frown. "I must have picked up the wrong container... That's odd. Everything else I prepared was perfectly fine."

Alexander, however, showed no reaction. He took another deliberate bite of the omelet, his expression completely serious. "It's genuinely good," he stated with sincerity.

Evelyn's eyes widened as she watched him consume the excessively salty food. She began to question if his sense of taste was malfunctioning.

"Are you being serious right now?" Evelyn asked, her voice full of doubt. "It's so salty it overpowers every other flavor!"

Alexander nodded, his gaze so honest she couldn't possibly question it.

The staff exchanged confused looks, their faces clearly showing their shock.

Alexander was famously particular about his food. If the chefs made even the slightest mistake, he would refuse to touch the meal.

Yet here he was, contentedly eating Evelyn's disastrous omelet without a single complaint.

"You really should eat something else," she insisted, reaching for the plate.

With a completely straight face, Alexander gently stopped her hand. "What are you doing? Trying to take my food?"

Evelyn laughed softly. "Alright, alright, I understand. You're trying to be polite. But seriously, you need to stop. It's far too salty, and that can't be healthy. Try some of this salad instead. It's nothing fancy, but at least it won't send your blood pressure soaring."

Concerned for Alexander's health, Evelyn instructed a staff member to remove the offending omelet.

Alexander tasted the salad and gave an approving nod. "Mmm, anything you prepare is delicious."

Evelyn's smile lingered. She had never known Alexander could be so playful. Noticing the relaxed dynamic between Evelyn and Alexander, one of his subordinates hesitated, seeming to want to speak but then deciding against it. Evelyn noticed his uncertainty and assumed he might be hungry. "Would you like to join us?" she offered. "There's more than enough."

The subordinate waved his hands quickly in refusal. "Oh no, thank you, I'm quite alright."

He scratched his head, looking awkward. "Um, Mrs. Blackwood, I was just thinking... you don't appear worried at all."

Evelyn paused, a confused expression crossing her face. "Worried about what?" she asked, truly not understanding.

Seeing her genuine confusion, the subordinate realized she must have been too busy with work to see the latest online gossip.

He quickly explained. "Mrs. Blackwood, those rumors about you on the internet? They're blowing up. If we don't take action soon, the situation could spiral out of control."

Evelyn stayed calm, her expression unchanged. "I'm aware of them. But now isn't the right moment to respond. Worrying won't help, so I prefer to focus on enjoying myself for a while."

She paused, a slight, almost sly smile touching her lips. "Besides, Patricia and Isabella are the ones who should be panicking right now," she added.

The subordinate nodded, still confused, but his admiration for her composure increased.

Since she seemed so untroubled, he decided it was best not to press further.

Just as Evelyn had predicted, Patricia and Isabella were in a state of utter panic.

"What on earth is wrong with Evelyn?" Patricia raged. "I've spent a fortune paying paparazzi to dig up scandal on her, and she's acting like nothing is wrong!"

Patricia's face was contorted with fury. "It's been two whole days, and she still hasn't come crawling back to us. She's driving me insane!"
