Chapter 16: Chapter 16

Evelyn's first impression of Alexander was a man in an impeccably tailored wedding suit, seated in a wheelchair, radiating a calm command.

Even amidst the public humiliation of being left at the altar, he had shown no trace of discomfort or agitation.

A sudden idea ignited within her.

She felt compelled to design something for him—something that captured his composed and noble essence.

A faint smile touched her lips as she picked up her pen and began to sketch with swift, confident strokes.

Half an hour later, Genevieve stood up, her posture radiating supreme confidence. She walked toward the interviewers, holding her design as if it were a priceless work of art.

"Finished." She gave the panel a smug smile as she handed over her sketch. "Genevieve Prescott. My signature is in the bottom corner."

The interviewers accepted it with professional courtesy. "Thank you. You may wait outside now."

The other candidates exchanged worried glances. Genevieve was done already? Only thirty minutes had passed, and most of them were barely halfway through their concepts.

Finishing a complete design in such a short time seemed unbelievable. A wave of anxiety spread through the room.

"I'm nowhere near done. What am I going to do?"

"This concept was a mistake. It's too late to change it now."

"This is a catastrophe. I've completely failed."

The nervous whispers prompted a sharp reprimand from one of the interviewers. "Silence, please. You have twenty-seven minutes left."

Evelyn, entirely focused on her work, remained unaware of Genevieve's early exit. Her pen moved steadily across the paper.

As time passed, the other designers gradually completed their work and submitted it, leaving the room one by one.

With only one minute remaining, Evelyn was the last candidate still seated.

An interviewer glanced at the clock. "Fifty seconds."

"Understood," Evelyn murmured calmly. She signed her name at the bottom of her design, stood, and placed it on the desk. "I'm finished. Thank you."

The interviewer gave a brief nod of acknowledgment.

Evelyn stepped out of the interview room and leaned against the wall, releasing a quiet sigh as she sat down.

Genevieve spotted her instantly and seized the chance to mock her. "Evelyn, what kept you? Did they have to drag you out because you couldn't finish?"

Her followers, who had been hovering nearby, eagerly joined in.

"That must be it. The interviewers will definitely remember her for all the wrong reasons."

"She probably just scribbled something down at the last second."

Evelyn's brow furrowed in irritation. She shot them a icy glare. "Be quiet. All of you are far too loud."

With that, she closed her eyes, cutting off any further interaction.

Genevieve clenched her fists, fury simmering inside her. But with Aethelgard Industries staff present, she had no choice but to swallow her rage and wait in silence.

After all the designs were collected, the interviewers began the process of reviewing them, matching the strongest pieces with resumes to select the final candidate.

The wait felt interminable. When the interviewers finally reappeared, all the designers gathered anxiously.

Evelyn, who had been resting, felt a sudden surge of nerves.

Her heart beat faster, her breath catching as she fixed her eyes on the interviewer holding the results.

Beside her, a designer whispered to Genevieve, "Genevieve, it has to be you. You're the most talented one here."

"Absolutely. Genevieve, we should congratulate you now, right?"

Genevieve smirked, already basking in the imagined glory.

This was her moment. She would be the one chosen by Aethelgard Industries.

The interviewer scanned the group before finally smiling. "After careful deliberation, we have selected Evelyn Blackwood for the position. Congratulations, Evelyn!"
