It's Acceptable To Rely On Me Occasionally
Witnessing Evelyn's visible fury, Alexander halted, an awkward gesture as he rubbed the bridge of his nose. "You appeared thoroughly engrossed last night," he stated. "I refrained from commenting to preserve the atmosphere."
Evelyn shot him a scorching glare, her irritation hitting its zenith. "Alexander Blackwood, you are utterly insufferable! How can you behave like this?"
She was unaware that her rage had minimal impact on him.
Alexander countered with a faint, teasing smile and a lifted brow.
Provoked and humiliated, Evelyn's hand flew up, delivering a sharp slap against his cheek.
Recognizing her genuine distress, Alexander's demeanor softened. After a brief pause for thought, he spoke in a gentle tone. "Very well, I concede my error. I am here to rectify the situation. Simply inform me of what you require."
Evelyn let out a sharp, frustrated breath. "Alexander, you are truly awful."
Her anger surged anew, and she sank her teeth firmly into his shoulder.
Alexander flinched, a low groan escaping his lips.
Startled by his reaction, Evelyn immediately released him, worried she had caused real injury. "Was that too hard? Is it bleeding?" She examined his shoulder, relieved to find only a faint impression.
It was barely visible, especially when contrasted with the more distinct marks from the previous night.
Alexander's eyes darkened, his voice dropping to a husky murmur. "The shoulder is manageable. However, there is another location causing significant discomfort."
Evelyn stiffened, comprehension dawning. A deep blush spread across her cheeks as she averted her gaze, biting her lip. Despite her anger, a part of her was impressed. "Alexander, how are you so... resilient? It defies your condition."
He smiled and leaned in close, his lips nearly brushing hers in a taunt. "Discover the answer for yourself."
"Alexander, you scoundrel. You..." Her protest was cut short as his mouth captured hers in a searing kiss.
They remained entangled in bed for a considerable time longer.
Eventually, Evelyn felt so utterly depleted she could scarcely lift a finger. Only then did Alexander finally release her.
"Alexander! I'm ravenous! Let me up!"
After they had both prepared for the day and descended the stairs, Evelyn's legs felt unsteady beneath her.
It was fortunate she was on leave from work.
In her present condition, surviving a full workday seemed an impossibility.
By the time they settled to eat, the clock showed it was well past noon, a direct consequence of their prolonged morning diversion.
During the meal, Alexander noticed Evelyn's pronounced fatigue. "Allow me to assist you," he offered gently.
Evelyn shook her head. "No, it's fine. I'm not completely helpless."
She reached for her knife and fork.
But her grip betrayed her, and the utensils clattered noisily onto the floor.
The sound made her jump, a fresh wave of embarrassment heating her face.
Alexander gave her a tender smile and took her hand. "Evelyn," he said softly. "It is acceptable to rely on me occasionally."
Her eyes glistened with a tumult of emotions, but she remained silent.
Alexander retrieved a new set of cutlery. He carefully cut a piece of food and lifted it towards her. "Here," he coaxed gently. "Try this."
