Chapter 27: Chapter 27

I'm Here To Deliver Some Documents

Evelyn stood completely still.

Her eyes widened in shock.

Why wasn't Alexander in his wheelchair?

The man who looked exactly like him was standing tall.

He leaned slightly as he gave orders to the people surrounding him.

The group listened with intense focus.

Their faces were serious. Their attitude was deeply respectful.

From her position, Evelyn could only see part of his profile.

It wasn't enough for a clear view.

Without conscious thought, she took a few steps forward.

How could this be?

Why was Alexander here?

And why was he standing?

Wasn't he paralyzed?

"Who are you?" A calm voice, laced with curiosity, spoke behind her.

Evelyn jumped and turned around.

A man in a suit, wearing glasses, stood there.

"Uh, I..." She instinctively glanced back toward the meeting room.

The man was gone. The door was now closed.

"I'm here to deliver some documents. Is that the main conference room?"

The man's brow furrowed slightly.

Then he offered a polite, understanding smile.

"You must be new. The main conference room on this floor is the other way. You're looking in the wrong place."

The other direction?

Evelyn pressed her lips together.

Irritation simmered inside her. No wonder she couldn't find it.

"What about that room? I saw people inside," she asked.

The man adjusted his glasses. His tone held a subtle warning.

"That's the CEO's private conference room. Unless you're a senior executive, you shouldn't go in there uninvited."

The CEO's conference room?

Evelyn's thoughts raced. So that was Sebastian's meeting room?

"Aren't you delivering documents? You should go. If someone else finds you loitering, you'll get in trouble," the man urged, gesturing for her to leave.

"Oh. Right. Thank you." Evelyn cast one last, longing look over her shoulder.

But feeling the weight of the documents, she pushed her curiosity down.

She hurried toward the main conference room.

Fortunately, the meeting hadn't started. Most attendees hadn't arrived.

She delivered the documents just in time.

Task complete, she took the elevator back to the Fashion Design Department.

But her mind was a whirlwind.

The image of that man—the one who looked so much like Alexander—wouldn't fade.

Was it really him?

It made no sense. Alexander had no reason to be at Aethelgard Industries.

And he certainly shouldn't be standing.

Maybe she was mistaken?

Back at her desk, Evelyn hesitated.

She pulled out her phone and found Alexander's number.

She typed a message.

"Alexander, where are you right now?"

It was a simple, casual question.

She hit send and leaned back in her chair.

She tapped her fingers on the phone, waiting.

Minutes passed. There was no reply.

A faint disappointment settled in her chest.

He was probably still sulking from this morning. He had locked himself in his study.

She sighed and placed her phone on the desk.

She tried to focus on browsing the company's design website.

Just as she was getting absorbed, her phone buzzed.

It was a call from Alexander.

Evelyn blinked in surprise.

She quickly scanned the office. Some colleagues were working. Others were slacking off.

Not wanting to talk at her desk, she stood up and moved to a quieter corner.

"Hello?" she answered. Her voice softened without her meaning it to.

There was a brief silence on the other end.

Then Alexander's deep, steady voice came through. "What is it?"
