Evelyn paused, her thoughts a whirlwind before she spoke. "I prefer to let life unfold naturally," she said, her voice carrying a blend of determination and a faint trace of longing. "I've always imagined a family full of warmth and love. But for now, our focus should be on working hard. We need to save enough to provide a stable, loving home for our future child."
Her eyes shone with hopeful light. "I want our child to enter a world of happiness. They shouldn't have to struggle alongside us."
Alexander wanted to tell her that his wealth and influence guaranteed their child would never want for anything. Their child could live in comfort without either of them needing to work so hard.
But he held back, not yet ready to reveal the full truth. Instead, he gave a firm nod. He squeezed her hand gently. "Alright," he affirmed. "We'll work hard together. Side by side."
As time passed, Evelyn maintained her regular work schedule.
Alexander, however, made a habit of calling her during her breaks. His calls were always punctual. His purpose was to remind her to take her medicine.
"Okay, don't worry. I'll take it right after lunch," Evelyn responded, her tone light and grateful. She ended the call with a soft smile.
A colleague sitting nearby overheard the conversation. She couldn't resist a teasing remark. "Evelyn, you and your husband are so close. You're here at work, and he still calls you every single day just to chat."
Evelyn chuckled softly, shaking her head. "It's not like that. I haven't been feeling well lately. He's just making sure I remember my medication."
Other married colleagues listened in. They couldn't conceal their envy at such devoted care.
"Evelyn, you have no idea how lucky you are. When I was sick, my husband barely looked at me. He showed no concern at all."
"Tell me about it! Once I came home with a fever after a double shift. He was there asking where dinner was. I nearly lost my temper with him."
"That's exactly why we think your husband is a real treasure!"
Evelyn sat in stunned silence. She absorbed the stark contrast between their marital experiences and her own.
It was in that moment she truly understood Alexander's depth of compassion and attentiveness.
A fresh wave of appreciation for him bloomed inside her. She made a silent vow to cherish him even more.
Unbeknownst to Evelyn, their casual lunchtime conversation was being discreetly recorded by someone nearby.
Once Evelyn and her colleagues left, the mysterious individual slipped away. They promptly sent the recording to their superior.
At the summit of the Vance Corporation, in its sleek top-floor conference room.
"Mr. Vance, over the past few years, Aethelgard Industries' expansion in Crestwood has been remarkable. Their reach is now almost nationwide. A stunning feat for a company that's relatively new to the scene."
Daniel continued, his tone mixing respect with unease. "As a rapidly growing titan, they've surpassed us in the design sector. They are also moving into cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence. If we don't act decisively, we will be completely overshadowed by Aethelgard Industries."
His expression grave, Daniel presented the report during the meeting.
Theodore's face darkened with worry as he listened. "I've had you investigating this for months. You still haven't identified their founder?" he questioned, a note of impatience in his voice.
Daniel shook his head, his demeanor solemn. Then, a spark of recollection lit his eyes.
"Actually, Mr. Vance, a potential lead has surfaced. There are rumors from a recent auction in the city. The founder of Aethelgard Industries supposedly purchased an extremely expensive necklace for his wife. This lead could help us uncover the founder's identity," he revealed.
Theodore's response was calm and deliberate. "Pursue this lead. Ensure the information is accurate. Obtain it quickly."
As Daniel moved the briefing to other matters concerning the Vance Corporation, Theodore's attention began to wander.
Suddenly, a vibration from his phone captured his focus. A new notification had arrived.
