A collective gasp rippled through the room.
Eyes widened in shock as Rebecca lost all composure.
She blurted out every malicious rumor she had been whispering.
Rebecca could no longer contain her scorn. "I feel sorry for you, Evelyn! Your husband bought you a dress? Big deal. Why are you making such a scene?"
She sneered contemptuously. "If you're won over by something so trivial, your standards are pathetically low. I value substance, not shallow materialism."
Ignoring the stares, Rebecca turned to Alexander as if dispensing wisdom.
"Mr. Blackwood, be careful who you marry. You could end up with a woman of poor character. Evelyn is shallow. She left her long-term boyfriend for you. Who's to say she won't leave you for the next man?"
She spoke with an air of moral superiority.
Someone unaware of the truth might have believed her.
Evelyn trembled with rage, ready to stand and confront her.
How far would Rebecca go?
A strong hand gently restrained Evelyn.
She turned to Alexander beside her.
His voice was calm but firm. "I married Evelyn because I wanted to. If she ever leaves, it will be because I failed to be the husband she deserves."
He paused, his gaze turning icy as it settled on Rebecca. "Your comments do remind me of something."
A smug smile spread across Rebecca's face, thinking her words had hit their mark.
But Alexander looked warmly at Evelyn. "I've only bought Evelyn a few dresses this time. Clearly, that's not enough to show my commitment. I need to do better."
Rebecca was utterly speechless.
Alexander clapped his hands sharply. "Bring them in."
The door to the private room swung open.
A group of impeccably dressed, serious-faced individuals entered.
Their sudden appearance stunned everyone.
Rebecca turned pale and stumbled backward. "Evelyn! What is your husband doing? With so many people here, is he planning to hurt me? Tell him to think carefully!"
Alexander raised an eyebrow, amused. "Who said anything about hitting you?"
Soon, everyone noticed the elegant boxes the newcomers carried.
With a casual wave of Alexander's hand, his men began distributing the boxes.
Each person in the room received a gift.
Everyone, except Rebecca.
Evelyn watched, completely bewildered.
What was happening? What was Alexander doing?
Confused glances were exchanged around the room. No one dared to speak, intimidated by Alexander's presence.
Finally, Lucas found his courage. "Mr. Blackwood, what is the meaning of this?"
Hadn't Alexander implied a surprise for Evelyn? Why was everyone else involved?
Alexander offered a slight smile. "It's just a small token. Please, open them. Then you'll understand."
