Chapter 454: Chapter 454

The comment made everyone laugh.

Evelyn smiled and shook her head. "You all are too much."

A colleague suddenly spoke up. "Evelyn, have you and Alexander discussed having children? You two are so perfect together, but we haven't heard any plans."

She paused for a moment, then answered with a gentle smile. "We've talked about it. If there's any news, you'll all be the first to know."

"With your genes, Evelyn, your child will be absolutely beautiful!"

After the cheerful chat, she returned to her desk and focused on her work.

But the subject stayed with her.

The thought of having a baby with Alexander was surprisingly sweet.

A soft smile touched her lips as she imagined it.

Her phone vibrated.

She picked it up.

A new message appeared on the screen.

"I have a business trip to a nearby city for a few days. Take care of yourself. I'll be back as soon as I can. Call me anytime if you need anything."

Evelyn was surprised. She hadn't expected him to leave so suddenly.

She typed a quick reply. "Did you pack everything?" "Yes, all done."

A moment later, another message arrived. "I noticed you were low on sanitary pads, so I restocked them. Your period is due soon. You might have cramps. Let me know if you feel unwell, okay?"

Evelyn smiled at his thoughtfulness. She responded, "I understand. Don't worry about me. Focus on your trip. I'll be fine."

He never missed even the smallest detail. It was incredibly touching.

That evening, when Evelyn got home, Alexander had already left.

The mansion seemed too still without him.

An unsettling silence had settled in the rooms.

Even the carefully prepared dinner on her plate tasted bland.

A maid approached, her voice soft with concern.

"Mrs. Blackwood, Mr. Blackwood was very specific before he departed."

"He insisted we ensure you eat properly."

"Shall I have the kitchen prepare a different dish for you?"

Evelyn blinked, pulled from her wandering thoughts.

She shook her head quickly.

"The food is fine, truly."

"I was just... thinking."

It wasn't the meal.

It was Alexander's absence that stole her appetite.

After forcing down a few bites, she retreated to their suite to get ready for bed.

Opening the bathroom cabinet, her gaze fell on the stack of sanitary pads.

He had arranged them himself, neatly.

A sharp pang of longing hit her chest.

He was gone, yet reminders of him were everywhere.

A small, involuntary sob escaped her.

She was surprised by the intensity of her own emotion.

She considered calling him.

But she knew he was likely immersed in his work.

With a heavy sigh, she slipped under the cool sheets, closing her eyes and begging for sleep to come.

This dependence on him was growing.

It was both comforting and terrifying.

Just as drowsiness began to pull her under, a thought electrified her nerves.

Her period.

It was late.

Evelyn bolted upright in the large bed.

She grabbed her phone from the nightstand, her fingers trembling as she opened the calendar app.

She scrolled back through the weeks, counting.

One month.

And then another two weeks.

Her heartbeat thundered in her ears, loud in the quiet room.

A single, staggering possibility filled her mind.

Could it be?

Was she pregnant?
