Chapter 457: Chapter 457

Evelyn glanced silently at Amelia before choosing to sit on the nearby sofa.

As she settled into the plush cushions, a memory surfaced.

She recalled Amelia's recent visit to Aethelgard Industries to meet its elusive founder.

Whispers from her colleagues echoed in her mind once more.

Could Amelia have developed feelings for the founder of Aethelgard Industries?

But what concern was that of hers?

Despite working there, Evelyn had never once laid eyes on the mysterious founder.

Why would Amelia connect her to that man?

The puzzle left Evelyn utterly perplexed.

She could think of no other reason for Amelia's sudden animosity.

They had only just met; their paths had never crossed before.

After a moment's thought, Evelyn decided on honesty. "I am married," she stated clearly.

She hoped this simple fact would dispel any unfounded suspicions.

The last thing she wanted was to make an unnecessary enemy.

Amelia leaned forward, her curiosity piqued. "Evelyn, with your talent, your husband must be quite remarkable. Does he own a business in the city? Perhaps I know him."

Evelyn maintained her composure. "Miss Sterling, you flatter me. My life is quite ordinary, as is my husband's."

Her expression shifted slightly. "If you are here to discuss business, let's be direct. There's no need to waste time."

Evelyn's bluntness visibly annoyed Amelia.

"Evelyn, I was merely hoping for a relaxed conversation. Must you be so formal?" She took a sharp breath. "Remember, the Sterling Group is about to form a major alliance with your firm. I am a Sterling. Your tone is surprisingly dismissive."

Evelyn remained calm. "I meant no offense. My schedule is packed today. If this is just a social call, perhaps we should reschedule."

Amelia scowled, shocked by the dismissal. She was not used to being treated this way by someone of a lower status.

She lifted her chin proudly. "I came here for a design. I'm eager to see the skills that made you head of the Design Department so quickly."

Without hesitation, Evelyn opened her portfolio. "Very well. Describe the garment you need. What is the occasion?"

Amelia's eyebrow arched. "Your firm is hosting the annual gala soon. As a major partner, my family will attend. I need an evening gown worthy of my status. It must be extraordinary."

Evelyn began taking notes. "Do you have any specific preferences, Miss Sterling?"

Amelia thought for a moment. "The design must be grand. I want a gown like no other. We can discuss details after I see your first draft."
