Charlotte's advice made perfect sense to Evelyn.
"Alright. I'll do as you suggest," Evelyn agreed.
Their call ended shortly after.
Evelyn carefully organized the prenatal reports in her hands. She stood up and walked out of the hospital.
Her mood was exceptionally light.
She was completely unaware of a figure silently watching from a nearby shadow.
Miriam's thin face was pale. Her expression darkened as she watched Evelyn leave. After a cautious glance around, she began to follow quietly.
It wasn't long before Evelyn met Charlotte at the hospital's main entrance.
"Charlotte!" The moment Evelyn saw her, she instinctively moved to rush forward.
Charlotte's eyes widened in alarm. She quickly stepped forward and caught Evelyn's arm. "Evelyn! Remember you're pregnant! No running. You nearly gave me a heart attack!"
Evelyn blinked, feeling sheepish. She offered an apologetic smile. "I was just so happy to see you. I completely forgot. I promise I'll be more careful."
Charlotte stared at her sternly for a moment before sighing. "You must be careful at all times now."
"I know." Evelyn gently took Charlotte's hand, warmth filling her chest.
Charlotte had always been her protector since they were young.
With Charlotte by her side, Evelyn never felt alone.
Evelyn smiled warmly. Then she noticed something. She frowned slightly. "Charlotte, you look a bit pale. Are you sure you're feeling alright?"
Charlotte's expression seemed normal, but a unusual fatigue shadowed her features.
She paused briefly, quickly composing herself. "I'm fine. Just a lot on my mind lately. Probably didn't sleep well last night."
Charlotte then glanced at Evelyn's belly. She gently placed a hand over it. "Little one, I'm your godmother. Remember this face. You only get one, you know."
Normally, Evelyn's sharp perception would have caught the subject change. But today, she was too absorbed in her pregnancy joy to notice anything amiss.
"Of course! My baby will only have you as a godmother!" Evelyn declared.
Charlotte smiled, satisfied. She gently linked arms with Evelyn, guiding her protectively. "Come on. Let's go to the mall."
The mall was just a short walk from the hospital.
They arrived within minutes, stepping into the bright, bustling space. They headed straight for a maternity store.
Rows of shelves were packed with an overwhelming array of baby products.
Evelyn's eyes immediately landed on a stroller displayed at the front. A smile spread across her face. She walked over and reached out to touch the handle.
"Charlotte, look at this! It's so cute," Evelyn remarked.
Charlotte followed and gave the stroller a quick inspection. "Strollers are so advanced now! They even play lullabies?"
Evelyn chuckled at her reaction. "That's been standard for a while. Some new models even have rocking functions and auto-fold systems."
Charlotte shook her head with amusement. "I'm clearly out of touch with baby gear. This is honestly my first time in a store like this."
They shared a light laugh. Charlotte then focused on her mission: picking out a special gift for the baby.
