Chapter 468: Chapter 468

Miriam looked up at Amelia, her smile overly ingratiating.

"You might not know this, Miss Sterling, but Mr. Sterling specifically instructed me to watch Evelyn."

Amelia's eyes widened instantly, her voice catching in shock.

"Jonathan told you to follow Evelyn? When? How come I wasn't aware?"

This revelation stunned Amelia deeply.

The idea of Evelyn having any connection to her brother had never occurred to her!

A flood of possibilities raced through Amelia's mind in seconds.

Could it be that Evelyn, that shameless woman, had somehow ensnared Jonathan while Amelia was preoccupied?

The thought was outrageous!

As Amelia dwelled on it, her anger escalated, and her contempt for Evelyn grew stronger.

Yet, Amelia maintained her composure. She wouldn't take this woman's word at face value.

Pausing to collect her thoughts, Amelia scanned the room with a cold, detached expression.

"You claim Jonathan sent you? Where is your proof? Be warned. Unless your explanation is convincing, prepare for severe consequences."

Miriam flinched, a wave of desolation washing over her.

It pained her deeply to be addressed so harshly by her own daughter.

With a heavy heart, Miriam replied meekly, "Yes, Miss Sterling."

Soon after, Amelia led Miriam to a private room in an upscale restaurant.

The room's soundproofing was impeccable, ideal for confidential talks.

Amelia settled confidently into the center of the sofa.

"Speak. Don't think you can deceive me. Your evidence must be clear and precise."

Taking a deep breath, Miriam produced a work ID from her pocket, the type issued exclusively to staff of the Sterling family.

"Miss Sterling, Mr. Jonathan did hire me," she explained.

A bodyguard took the ID and handed it to Amelia.

Amelia examined the card with visible distaste, giving it only a cursory glance.

She confirmed its authenticity as a genuine Sterling family servant pass.

This verification made Amelia believe the middle-aged woman before her was indeed linked to the Sterling family.

It seemed her initial doubts might be unfounded.

Irritated, Amelia pressed her lips together.

"Why did Jonathan hire you to follow Evelyn? I want the whole story. Make it clear."

Despite her guilt, Miriam kept her composure and lied smoothly.

"As your brother, he naturally prioritizes your interests," Miriam explained with a slow, reassuring smile.

"He admires your respect for the founder of Aethelgard Industries and believes you two are a perfect match. He fully supports your interactions with him."

Amelia's stern expression softened slightly. A smug smile touched her lips.

"So, Jonathan sees me as suitable for Mr. Blackwood? I knew it. He wouldn't have introduced me at the Sterling banquet if he didn't approve."

With her mood improved, Amelia's attitude toward Miriam became more lenient.

"Continue."

Miriam, noticing the reduced suspicion, breathed an internal sigh of relief.

She added, "However, Mr. Sterling has since discovered that Evelyn has been exploiting her position as head of the Fashion Design Department to get closer to the founder!"
