Chapter 482: Chapter 482

The idea of Amelia losing it all made Miriam's blood run cold.

She needed Evelyn gone.

Now.

That was the only path to safeguard Amelia's secret.

A ringing filled her ears, muffling the world.

Then Jonathan's voice broke through the static.

She blinked, focusing on him. "Mr. Sterling, I'm sorry, what was that?"

To Jonathan, her distant look signaled trouble.

He sighed, his tone even. "Miriam, if you're unwell, consider a hospital visit before it escalates. Was the last transfer sufficient? I can arrange more."

Miriam shook her head quickly. "No, that's not necessary, Mr. Sterling. I'm perfectly fine. I prefer to continue working to support myself."

She couldn't leave now.

Amelia still required her protection.

That single thought steeled her will.

She drew a steadying breath, her mind sharpening. "Mr. Sterling, earlier you mentioned the woman who resembles you. Do you require my assistance with her?"

Her initial panic had subsided.

The clarity returned—Jonathan wouldn't have been so composed around Amelia if he truly suspected anything.

For the moment, he still believed Amelia was his genuine sister.

This knowledge calmed her frayed nerves.

As expected, Jonathan spoke with measured thought. "Her identity and reasons for attending Amelia's party are unknown to me. But I cannot allow her near my sister again."

Miriam feigned hesitation. "Mr. Sterling..."

"Amelia may not be the most observant, but she isn't blind. Seeing me beside that woman would inevitably draw comparisons," Jonathan explained carefully. "Amelia is delicate. Her heart is weak. I will not permit anything to spoil her birthday."

A slight smile touched Miriam's lips. "Mr. Sterling, your devotion to Miss Sterling is truly evident."

As long as Jonathan remained Amelia's shield, Miriam was certain—her daughter's position was secure.

"What are your instructions?" she pressed.

Jonathan's voice was cool and decisive. "Dispatch a few discreet staff with appropriate gifts. Locate her. Politely request her departure from the event. The Sterling name carries weight; we must handle this with courtesy. If she demands compensation, I will provide it."

Miriam could barely conceal her triumph.

So, Jonathan intended to have Evelyn removed after all.

Everything was aligning perfectly.

"Understood, Mr. Sterling. I will see to it personally."

Jonathan gave a curt nod. "Proceed."

He didn't want his usual security involved—too many witnesses, too much potential for gossip.

Using a few trusted staff members was a more subtle way to convey the family's position.

Miriam bowed her head in acquiescence and turned to leave.

Her eyes, once shadowed with worry, now gleamed with a different emotion—anticipation.

Jonathan wanted her to be polite to Evelyn.

But Miriam had a far more effective plan in mind.
