Chapter 52: Chapter 52

I Will Never Regret My Choice

A shiver ran down Julian's spine at the sound of that cold, authoritative voice.

He spun around, his eyes widening in disbelief.

Alexander Blackwood was seated in a wheelchair, his presence dominating the space.

"It's you?" Julian stammered, his mind reeling from the sudden appearance.

In a swift motion, Alexander's hand shot out and clamped around Julian's wrist.

The grip was like iron, sending a sharp jolt of pain up Julian's arm.

Julian tried to pull away, but the hold only tightened, immobilizing him completely.

"Let me go!" he cried out, his face contorted in agony. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead.

Alexander's expression remained impassive. Then, to Julian's surprise, he released his grip.

Julian stumbled backward, his legs tangling. He landed hard on the ground in an undignified heap.

A wave of muffled laughter rippled through the crowd of onlookers.

Scrambling to his feet, Julian's humiliation quickly turned to anger as his eyes fell on the wheelchair.

He brushed off his clothes with a contemptuous sneer. "What are you doing here?" he demanded, his voice dripping with hostility.

But any sense of superiority he felt evaporated under Alexander's intense gaze.

Even seated, Alexander exuded a powerful aura that commanded silence and respect.

A single sharp glance from him made the bystanders instinctively take a step back.

"I am Evelyn's husband. My presence here to collect my wife is perfectly logical," Alexander stated, his tone icy enough to freeze the air. He dismissed Julian as if he were insignificant.

Just then, Evelyn moved to stand behind Alexander, a look of profound relief washing over her features.

She had secretly sent Alexander a text message on her way to the café.

His timely arrival was a godsend. She hadn't known how much longer she could have endured Julian's harassment.

Evelyn offered Alexander a soft, grateful smile. "Let's go," she whispered.

The coldness in Alexander's eyes thawed slightly. "The car is waiting," he replied.

Evelyn took hold of the wheelchair's handles and began to push Alexander toward the exit.

"Evelyn!" Julian shouted, unable to accept defeat. "You'll regret choosing him! Mark my words!"

He still couldn't believe she had truly left him. This was his last, desperate attempt to get through to her.

Evelyn stopped. She turned slowly to face him, her expression utterly blank and detached.

A flicker of hope ignited in Julian's chest.

But before that hope could take hold, Evelyn bent down.

She pressed a soft, deliberate kiss onto Alexander's cheek.

She then locked eyes with Julian, her voice cold and final. "Give it up, Julian. I will never, ever regret my choice. If you continue to harass me, don't blame my husband for the consequences."

Julian stood frozen, utterly stunned by her public display of affection for another man.

The sight was a crushing blow.

Alexander was just a man in a wheelchair!

Was he still inferior to him in her eyes?

Alexander, caught by surprise in his chair, also seemed momentarily taken aback.

The gentle pressure of Evelyn's lips left a lingering warmth on his skin.

A warmth he couldn't ignore.
