Self-interest is the only thing that truly wakes a person up.
And perhaps it was time Nathan got his own wake-up call.
Samantha frowned in confusion. "Didn't Nathan want you and Alexander to get divorced more than anyone? Now that you're finally doing it, why would he suddenly interfere?"
Amy casually examined the jewelry in the display case before answering. "He probably just doesn’t want to see me happy. He’d rather I stay trapped as the Blackwood family’s glorified servant. Though, there’s another possibility..."
Samantha leaned in. "What?"
"Dominic could be lying to me."
Samantha scoffed immediately. "No, the first option makes more sense. Dominic’s too smart to risk meeting you just to tell a lie that could be exposed so easily."
She paused, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "Still, better safe than sorry. What if he is lying?"
Amy shrugged. "Doesn’t matter much to me either way. Honestly, I’ve been sick of Nathan for years. If this teaches him a lesson, even better."
Over the years, Nathan had secured countless lucrative contracts and favors from Blackwood Enterprises. If not for Alexander and Dominic repeatedly bailing him out, his company—given his questionable business instincts—would’ve collapsed long ago.
Alexander had done Nathan so many favors that Nathan couldn’t refuse returning them. Whenever Alexander shopped at one of Nathan’s high-end malls, the bill always went straight to Nathan’s account. Alexander wore only custom-tailored suits, and occasionally visited Nathan’s entertainment venues—though he never spent extravagantly.
A few hundred thousand, maybe a million, was nothing to Nathan.
But ten million? That was a different story.
Samantha smirked. "You’re right. It’s about time they both got a taste of their own medicine."
Nathan always stuck his nose where it didn’t belong, sabotaging Amy’s divorce plans. And Alexander, thinking he could manipulate her? He deserved what was coming.
Clutching a thick stack of invoices—dozens of pages long—Nathan stormed into Alexander’s office.
"Alex, that woman is insane! She went on a shopping spree at every single one of my properties—and charged it all to me!"
Nathan was trembling with rage, his eyes bloodshot.
"Do you have any idea how much she spent? Ten million dollars!"
His chest heaved, his breath coming in sharp bursts as he struggled to contain his fury. His voice was so tight it sounded like he was forcing the words through clenched teeth.
"And she didn’t just hit my stores. She went to every business under Prescott Industries—including those run by my bastard half-brothers!"
Reginald Prescott had always treated his children equally, giving each a few companies to manage as a test of their abilities. On paper, all businesses fell under Prescott Industries, but in reality, they were locked in ruthless competition.
Nathan had suffered countless schemes from his half-siblings, nearly losing his company once after a particularly vicious trap. If Alexander hadn’t intervened, he would’ve been ruined.
Nathan hated those conniving illegitimate brothers. If Amy had only shopped at his stores, he might’ve let it slide. But she had the audacity to spend at theirs too!
Alexander frowned. "How did her purchases end up on your account?"
Nathan looked ready to grind his teeth to dust. "Because I told everyone that anything you bought went on my tab. Amy went around flashing your marriage certificate, pretending to be your wife to get VIP treatment!"
Amy knew simply claiming to be Alexander’s wife wouldn’t be enough, so she carried their marriage certificate everywhere.
Just this morning, Nathan had received a call from his scheming half-brother, Tristan.
