Isaac said, "Evelyn got married and had a child five years ago. Her ex-husband was none other than Alexander Blackwood from Newhaven."
Aurora and Connor were both stunned.
Aurora was the first to speak. "Evelyn was married? And she has a child?"
Connor added sharply, "Ex-husband? They divorced that quickly?"
Isaac nodded. "Yes, they separated recently. From what I’ve heard, it was because Alexander couldn’t move on from his first love."
He paused, then continued, "When Father found out he had a grandson, he was overjoyed. Right now, he’s preparing a gift for Evelyn’s son—something special for when they finally meet."
Aurora’s brows furrowed in disbelief. "Blackwood Enterprises is one of the most powerful corporations in Newhaven. How did Evelyn even manage to marry Alexander?"
She didn’t say it outright, but the implication was clear. With Evelyn’s background, marrying into the Blackwood family should have been impossible. Old-money dynasties like theirs cared about lineage and status above all else—especially for someone as distinguished as Alexander.
Then Isaac dropped the bombshell. "If she had been introduced as a Harrington from the start, then marrying Alexander wouldn’t have been an issue at all."
Aurora and Connor exchanged glances, immediately understanding his meaning. Connor pressed, "Are you saying she revealed her true identity to Alexander long ago?"
Isaac’s expression darkened. "If she wasn’t a Harrington, there’s no way Alexander would have married her. Even if she got pregnant, he would have made sure she… took care of it."
"Pregnant before marriage?" Connor’s voice turned icy. "She got pregnant out of wedlock? How could she stoop so low?"
A bitter memory surfaced. "Last time, she claimed someone was slandering her. But now it’s obvious—she was the one seducing Theodore all along."
"Connor, let’s not revisit the past," Aurora interjected smoothly, steering the conversation away. "If she was pregnant before the wedding, then it makes sense. Once Alexander learned she was a Harrington, he wouldn’t dare cross our family. That’s likely why he married her."
Isaac nodded thoughtfully. "Even if she did marry him, the gap between their worlds was too vast. They were never going to last."
Aurora corrected him gently. "Isaac, Evelyn and Alexander are actually well-matched in status."
Isaac smirked. "It’s not just about money. They were raised in completely different environments. The odds of them truly connecting were slim. After that failed marriage, she must have finally realized where she truly belongs."
He leaned forward, his voice firm. "Lately, Jonathan and Father have been discussing bringing her back from Newhaven. After everything she’s been through, it’s time she came home."
Two days later, Amy received a call from Benjamin Carter.
"Celeste, I managed to secure an invitation to Arthur Pendleton’s music symposium. I’ll have it delivered to you tomorrow."
Amy hesitated. "What about you? Aren’t you coming?"
"I only have one ticket," Benjamin admitted quietly. "I’ve been to enough of these events. You need this opportunity more than I do."
Unlike someone like Alexander, who could snap his fingers and get an invitation instantly, Benjamin didn’t have that kind of influence. This single ticket was the best he could offer.
"Benjamin, you should keep it," Amy said softly. "I already have an invitation."
Benjamin was taken aback. "Celeste, how did you manage that?"
Amy explained how she’d gotten the invitation from Julian Montclair.
The line went silent for a long moment.
"Celeste… I’m sorry."
Amy blinked. "Benjamin?"
His voice was thick with guilt. "You’ve been through so much lately, and I haven’t been able to help at all. I feel… useless."
Amy couldn’t help but laugh. "Benjamin, why are you saying things like that?"
