Chapter 55: Chapter 56

The stunning pair stood locked in an embrace, looking like they'd walked straight off the set of a high-budget romance film. They were picture-perfect.

Amy watched the scene unfold with an expression as unreadable as a frozen lake, yet her throat constricted as if an invisible hand had wrapped around it, stealing her breath.

So, Alexander had come to the hospital for Victoria. And he had witnessed her humiliation firsthand.

Alexander's brow furrowed as he gently disentangled himself from Victoria's hold. "Victoria..." he started, but then his gaze landed on Sebastian, who was guiding Amy away with a protective arm around her.

His eyes darkened, his body tensing as if to follow, but Victoria clung to his sleeve. "Alex," she murmured, her voice sweet as honey. "A few more witnesses reached out to me this morning. They're willing to testify."

"Testify?" His attention snapped back to her, sharp and calculating.

"Yes. Since Ms. Sinclair hasn't admitted to hitting me, these witnesses will make sure she can't deny it." Victoria's tone was gentle, almost sympathetic. "Don't worry, Alex. I know she's your wife. I won't make this difficult for her. My injuries weren't severe—I'll drop the charges if she just apologizes."

She tilted her head, her expression earnest. "The rumors online are ruining her reputation. This could be her chance to set the record straight and rebuild her image. When the time comes, I'll publicly support her, saying it was just an unfortunate accident. That should put an end to all this."

She spoke as if she were doing Amy a favor, her words dripping with selflessness. Not once did she mention her own pain or grievances, painting herself as the epitome of understanding.

Alexander's gaze softened slightly. "If only Amy were half as reasonable as you."

Victoria smiled. "She just needs time. I'm sure she'll come around."

That evening, several so-called eyewitnesses uploaded videos detailing what they had allegedly seen.

"I was walking home when I saw Ms. Sinclair's car suddenly accelerate and ram straight into Ms. Langley's."

"She didn't even brake. It was terrifying! At first, I thought she'd mistaken the pedals, but then it became clear—she didn't try to swerve. It looked deliberate."

"Plenty of people saw it. It wasn't just me."

Once one person spoke up, others followed, all condemning Amy's actions and demanding an apology.

...

Just as the uproar began to die down, Amy made a sudden announcement—she would be holding a press conference.

The internet exploded with speculation. Everyone assumed she had finally caved under pressure and was ready to issue a public apology. Critics celebrated, convinced their relentless attacks had forced her into submission.

On the day of the press conference, the venue was packed to the brim. Amy hadn't restricted attendance, and the result was a chaotic sea of reporters and onlookers.

Sebastian glanced at the crowd below, his expression grim. "Celeste," he murmured, using her stage name, "once you open this door, there's no closing it. If you go through with this, things between you and Alexander might never be the same."
