Jay and Sam both noticed Elizabeth on the couch at the same moment. Samantha pressed a finger to her lips, signaling for silence. She carefully tucked the blanket around Elizabeth and placed a pillow under her head, making her more comfortable.
Even in her sleep, Elizabeth kept muttering terrible things about Victoria.
It was quite amusing.
Once Elizabeth was settled, Samantha returned to her desk. Jay and Sam took seats opposite her.
Knowing exactly why they had come, Samantha retrieved the file on Elise's case. "These are all the details I gathered from our meeting," she said quietly. "I've highlighted the key points for you."
She slid the folder across the desk.
As Jay studied the contents with a serious expression, Samantha asked casually, "Any progress on finding Mr. Levine, Mr. Parker?"
"We expect to locate him by tomorrow, barring any complications."
"That's excellent news," Samantha replied.
"There are several investigative angles here that will require Mr. Levine's assistance, particularly for areas beyond our reach." Jay nodded in agreement.
The three of them began analyzing Elise's case in depth, their discussion continuing until darkness fell outside.
On the couch, Elizabeth suddenly stirred.
The moment she moved, she tumbled off the couch and landed with a loud thud! The trio immediately turned their attention toward her. Elizabeth felt a sharp pain in her backside. She couldn't recall how she ended up on the floor or when she had fallen asleep. Weren't they just discussing Elise with Samantha?
She became acutely aware of multiple pairs of eyes watching her. Looking up, she found Samantha, Jay, and Sam all staring directly at her.
Even with her thick skin, Elizabeth felt thoroughly embarrassed.
Remaining on the floor under their collective gaze made her feel completely sheepish! To make matters worse, none of them were offering to help her up!
Samantha seemed to realize this belatedly and hurried over. "Are you alright? Did you hurt yourself?" she asked with concern.
"My backside is killing me," Elizabeth complained.
"Let me help rub it better," Samantha offered, already massaging Elizabeth's rear.
Elizabeth didn't stop her—they had been close friends for years and were comfortable with this level of intimacy. Sam and Jay watched the scene unfold, with Sam staring particularly intently.
"Don't tell me... you two are into each other?" he finally blurted out.
Both women immediately scowled at him. Elizabeth snapped, "You seriously need psychiatric help."
Sam felt instantly annoyed—Elizabeth always gave him dirty looks whenever they met.
"William and I grew up together. We're practically brothers, which makes me your brother too," he retorted. "Shouldn't you show me some respect?"
Elizabeth shrugged indifferently. "This is exactly how I treat annoying little puppies."
"Elizabeth..."
Sam was clearly provoked. Jay placed a hand on his shoulder. "That's enough. Let's refocus on our business."
Sam shot Elizabeth one final glare. "Fine, I'll let it go for your uncle's sake."
Elizabeth clearly had more to say, but Samantha quickly stopped her.
