She always had the final word in the Scott household! "What on earth were you thinking when you humiliated Elise in front of the media, declaring that the Scott family would never beg for her help? You've destroyed our only chance! You have no sense at all, despite your age!"
Benjamin scolded harshly.
He dumped all the blame and responsibility onto Margaret.
"How dare you speak to me like that?! I'm your mother, Benjamin. Aren't you afraid of divine retribution?!"
Margaret's face turned pale as she shouted back.
"If you weren't my mother, I would have thrown you out years ago! You've lived comfortably in our home all these years, yet you show such ingratitude!"
Rage burned in Benjamin's chest as he spoke.
The thought of becoming everyone's laughingstock made him furious, with no outlet for his anger.
After yelling at Margaret, he suddenly stood from the couch and violently kicked the coffee table.
The cups on the table shattered across the floor, creating a loud crash.
Then he stormed upstairs in a temper.
Margaret's eyes reddened with fury. She had never been treated so disrespectfully in all her years. She never imagined the day would come when her own son, whom she had raised from infancy, would berate her like this.
"Grandmother, you can't blame Father for scolding you. You were completely unreasonable."
Daniel tossed the remark at her before turning to leave as well.
Margaret was absolutely livid.
The grandson she had spoiled rotten, the one she had given everything to, was now lecturing her?! "Ungrateful wretches, all of you!"
Margaret exclaimed, her entire body trembling with rage.
Victoria felt a secret thrill.
Having lived under Margaret's tyranny for years, Victoria had never been allowed to be her true self.
In fact, after learning that Sophia had taken control of Scott Enterprises, she understood exactly why she had done it.
She had given birth to Sophia and knew precisely what she was thinking—she wanted to become someone powerful, someone everyone would bow down to and obey.
Outwardly, however, Victoria continued her performance, comforting Margaret with feigned concern.
"Actually, Mother, there might still be a way with Elise..." Margaret looked at Victoria. "What do you mean?"
"Elise is still family. She doesn't really have any use for that 10% of shares. Wouldn't it be better for her to sell them for money?!"
Victoria suggested.
"She just needs a reason to do it. Back then, you were the one who publicly severed ties with Elise. If you retract that statement and explain to the media that you spoke out of anger previously, you could approach Elise again, treat her kindly, and ask her to sell her shares back to us."
"Victoria Scott, are you trying to kill me? I am Margaret Scott, for heaven's sake. Wouldn't retracting my own statement be like slapping my own face?!"
Margaret was incensed.
"But we have no other choice. You saw how determined Sophia is, and none of us can persuade her otherwise. I, as her mother, want to teach her a lesson too, but I'm not capable enough. The only way now is for you to set your pride aside and beg Elise for help."
Victoria instigated.
"I won't go. I'd rather die than beg Elise!"
Margaret would never stoop so low.
"Then we'll just have to watch Scott Enterprises fall into Sophia's hands." Victoria sighed helplessly. She stood up, preparing to leave.
"Wait."
Margaret gritted her teeth, knowing she was largely responsible for their current predicament.
"I'll call Elise."
"Elise certainly won't answer the phone. If you're truly sincere about this, I suggest you meet Elise face-to-face. It would appear much more genuine," Victoria said with false kindness.
