"I didn't..." Wendy's eyes widened in terror, not understanding why Ethan had suddenly lost it. His gaze was as deep as an abyss.filling her with unease and confusion.
Her limbs went rigid with fear, and she felt the air being siowly sucked out of her chest. She could only opén her mouth wide, gasping for breath.
Ethan despised betrayal more than anything. Even though he no longer loved Wendy, he was only keeping her around to exploit the last remaining value of the Knight family.
In his eyes, since Wendy had married him, she was his possession, and he wouldn't tolerate anyone else touching her.
The thought that Wendy might be hiding another man at home made his blood boil. He wanted to punish her on the spot.
Wendy's neck throbbed with pain, her chest felt tight, and her fingers trembled violently. The instinct to survive made her claw at Ethan's wrist, but her feeble strength was no match for his iron grip.
Her vision darkened, and just when she thought she was about to suffocate,Henry rushed in, grabbing Ethan's shoulder. "Mr. Collins, what are you doing?"
Ethan turned his head, eyes blazing with fury. "Are you the man Wendy's hiding?"
Henry immediately realized the misunderstanding and hurried to explain."No, please don't misunderstand. I'm here to draft the divorce agreement between you and Ms. Knight."
To show his sincerity, he quickly pulled out a business card and handed it over.
Ethan's grip loosened slightly, allowing Wendy to catch her breath. She curled up on the couch, trembling uncontrollably.
Seeing Ethan let go, Henry breathed a sigh of relief and bravely suggested,"Mr. Collins, perhaps you and Ms. Knight could discuss the division of assets for the divorce?"
The mention of "divorce" made Ethan's demeanor even colder. This inexplicable emotion puzzled even him, filling him wvith irritation.
Henry, feeling the intensity of Ethan's gaze, stood awkwardly, not daring to move or even glance around.
Finally, Ethan spat out, "Get out!" Henry, feeling as if he'd been granted a reprieve, quickly turned and fled, not even bothering to take his laptop from the study.
Wendy, already weak, was left with a prominent red mark around her slender neck. It took her a long time to breathe normally again.
She realized just how fragile her body had become. Ethan had been rough with her before, but it had never left her feeling this drained.
"Ethan, were you trying to kill me just now?" Wendy's voice was hoarse, filled with endless sorrow and anger.
This wasn't the first time Wendy had seen Ethan angry. He usually came across as cold and distant, even when furious. But this level of rage was something she had never imagined.
Why was Ethan so furious?
Was it because of the divorce?
Or did he think she was cheating on him, just like he had?
Ethan didn't answer. He sat heavily on the couch, leaning back, his eyes bloodshot, looking somewhat disheveled.
"Why the sudden talk of divorce?" Ethan asked, his tone dripping with accusation, as if Wendy was the one who had wrecked their marriage.
Wendy almost laughed in disbelief. She clutched her neck, struggling to sit up. "Ethan, haven't you always wanted to get rid of me so you could be with Lydia? Now that I'm giving you what you want, why do you look so displeased?"
"I asked why you want a divorce!" Ethan repeated impatiently, his voice rising sharply.
"Why else? I'm tired of this marriage. I don't love you anymore, and I don't want to stand in the way of you and Lydia. Are those reasons enough?"
Maybe it was the suffocating experience she had just endured, or perhaps years of pent-up grievances, but Wendy's eyes were red with anger.
She stared directly into Ethan's eyes, as if trying to see into his soul, to understand why her years of effort had never warmed his heart.
Wendy smirked bitterly. "If those reasons aren't enough, then think whatever you want."
Ethan's mind was filled with vile thoughts. What else could he think?
He suspected Wendy had betrayed him. Otherwise, why would she suddenly stop loving him?
He had never valued Wendy's feelings, but he knew how deeply she had loved him.
Now that her love was gone, he felt an inexplicable emptiness, as if he had lost something crucial.
Ethan's eyes darkened, and his anger flared up again.
His eyes bloodshot, he stood up abruptly, grabbing Wendy by the collar."Wendy, it seems you've been busy while I was away. Divorce is just a cover for your affair. That Henry must be your lover. After all, a slut like you can't be satisfied with just one man."
With that. Ethan yanked Wendy up and threw her to the ground. He looked down at her with contempt and disdain.
The fall made Wendy's stomach churn, and she almost vomited the milk she had for breakfast. Her stomach twisted in pain.
Though gentle by nature. Wendy was not one to be bullied. Ethan's cruel words made her chest heave with anger and indignation.
"You're right, I did cheat!" Wendy retorted, her face full of scorn. "What, you can have your fun outside, but I can't?"
Ethan, enraged, raised his hand and slapped her hard, not giving Wendy a chance to react.
Wendy's head buzzed, and she felt dizzy from the blow. Her ears rang, and she saw stars.
"Say that again if you dare!" Ethan's eyes were wide with fury, as if he wanted to tear Wendy apart.
That slap shattered Wendy's last bit of hope for Ethan. She wiped the blood from her mouth, closed her eyes, and felt a deep sadness.
She was truly exhausted and didn't want to waste any more of her life on someone as heartless as Ethan.
"Ethan, enough is enough. I don't have much time leftel can't wait any longer."
Wendy's voice trembled with determination. "Ethan,we could have ended this marriage amicably. But since you refuse, I'll sue you for domestic violence.See you in court."
