Chapter 32: Chapter 32

Chris was pushed through the crowd by his caregiver, and when he heard that the person confronting Wendy was Sarah, he couldn't help but frown.

The Collins family might not be a powerhouse. but they had some influence in Aurora City.

Sarah, leveraging her family's status. was notorious for her arrogance at Blue Ridge Medical Center.

Chris had heard about her from other doctors and nurses. though he had never interacted with her directly.

But,today, Sarah had crossed paths with Wendy.

Although Chris had only met Wendy a few times, he had taken a particular liking to her.

So,upon hearing that Sarah was giving Wendy a hard time, he didn't hesitate to step in.

Sarah was visibly taken aback when she saw Chris.

Why was he standing up for Wendy?

As a member of the Turner family, Chris was someone Sarah had always wanted to befriend at Blue Ridge Medical Center, but his bodyguards and caregivers had always kept her at bay.

It was said that Chris preferred solitude and wasn't keen on making friends. How did Wendy know Chris?

"Well, Wendy, your ability to cozy up to the powerful is truly impressive!"

Sarah didn't dare offend Chris, so she continued to direct her hostility at Wendy.

Chris furrowed his brow and, before Wendy could respond, signaled his caregiver to push him next to Wendy. "Explain yourself.Sarah.How exactly is Wendy cozying up to the powerfual?”

Seeing Chris clearly defending Wendy. Sarah's expression changed, and she forced a smile with a hint of flattery.

"Mr. Turner, don't be fooled by this scheming woman. My brother didn't fancy her, but she used every trick to stay by his side. Fortunately, he was clear-headed and never truly acknowledged her. Now that my brother's true love has returned, this woman has been kicked out."

As Sarah spoke, she seemed to realize something, her flattering smile turning into disdain.

"She must have no one else to rely on, so she's latched onto you. If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Turner, you must have gotten her this job at the hospital, right?"

"Shut up, Sarah. Just because you're malicious doesn't mean everyone else is." Chris retorted, angered by Sarah's demeaning words about Wendy.

He defended Wendy like a protective cub. "First of all, Wendy got this job on her own merits. Secondly, if your brother had a true love, why did he mess with Wendy? And then, when his true love returned,he discarded Wendy. That's just despicable!"

Wendy felt a surge of gratitude as she watched Chris defend her.

After all, she had only met Chris twice, and his willingness to stand up for her was unexpected.

Sarah hadn't anticipated Chris's staunch defense of Wendy, and her face turned awkward as she glared at Wendy. "You really are something!"

Wendy narrowed her eyes. "Sarah, it was stupid of me to fall for Ethan back then, but you know why he married me. Twisting the truth and slandering others has its limits!"

Ethan had pursued and married her because of the Knight family's reputation in the medical field, hoping to leverage it to break into the pharmaceutical market.

Now that they had squeezed all the value out of the Knight family, they discarded her.

The Collins family had reaped all the benefits and still wanted to defame her?

Sarah gritted her teeth. "You b-"

Chris cut her off again. "Enough with the insults. Wendy's not gonna stoop to your level."

Unable to confront Chris directly, Sarah pointed at Wendy and shouted,"Wendy, if you're so high and mighty, return all the benefits Ethan gave you! You acted so shamelessly and even extorted a fortune before leaving.Do you think you're worth that much?”

"It doesn't matter what you say to me. You should tell Ethan. He cheated during our marriage, and I only took a small amount. If you push me,I can sue for a fair division of assets!" Wendy's voice was icy.

Sarah was stunned. Was this the same Wendy who had once loved Ethan so desperately?

She spoke of Ethan with such indifference now?

Ethan used to be Wendy's weakness!

Wendy glanced at the time, then lightly patted Chris's shoulder. "Let's go.You need to rest."

Chris's handsome face broke into a smile, and he obediently said."Okay, let's go,Wendy."

Sarah's face turned ashen as she watched them leave, her long nails nearly digging into her palms.

How dare Wendy!

'Does she think that by cozying up to the Turner family, she is untouchable? We'll see!'

Chris was escorted back to his room by his bodyguards and caregiver.

Wendy returned to work with Michael.

Seeing Wendy's calm demeanor, unaffected by Sarah, Michael couldn't help but admire her. "Wendy, you're like a completely different person now!"

Wendy smiled slightly. "How so?"

"Before, whenever Sarah mentioned Ethan, even if she was being unreasonable, you'd immediately back down. Every time I visited the Collins Villa, you seemed like a doormat."

"That was because I was blind back then, loving someone who didn't love me."Wendy's lips curled into a mocking smile.

Because he didn't like her, she didn't even have the right to argue at the

Collins Villa.

Michae looked at her. "What about now? Do you still love him?”

Wendy looked up at him. "Love or not, I just want to focus on my work now. I've realized that without personal value, there's no dignity or status. No matter how hard you try toplease others, your existence won't matter to them."

Michael stared at her for a moment. then a gentle smile appeared on his face.

He said lightly, "Alright, let's focus on our work. We have a busy afternoon ahead with new patients to admit!"

Wendy smiled and turned back to her work.

After a long day, Wendy went to the oncology department for targeted therapy, thanks to Harold's kindness.

She had alreadý undergone a biopsy at Susan's hospital and now needed genetic testing.

Once the results were in, she could choose the appropriate targeted medication.

By the time Wendy finished all the tests, it was already midnight.

She wrapped her coat tightly around her and headed to the subway station.

As she walked, she replied to a few friends' messages on her phone.

Someone blocked her path ahead. She moved to the side, but the person moved with her.

She tried the other side, but the person mirrored her again.

Realizing it wasn't a coincidence. Wendy stopped typing and looked up from her screen.

Charles stood in front of her, speaking as if they were old friends."Who are you texting so intently?"
