Chapter 38: Chapter 38

Wendy's eyes flew open, filled with surprise.

"Hey, don't worry, I'm here," Alexander said softly, his deep voice carrying a unique charm.

"Mr. Turner, what are you doing here?" Wendy stared blankly at the handsome man in front of her, murmuring his name, thinking she was hallucinating from the pain.

She couldn't believe she was imagining someone as unattainable as Alexander.

"I came to check on Chris and saw you getting treatment. Don't move,"Alexander frowned slightly, squeezing her hand gently. "It'll be over soon."

Wendy froze.

This wasn't a hallucination; Alexander was really by her side.

"Don't be scared," Alexander continued to comfort her. "It'll be over soon, just hang in there."

Wendy quickly released her grip and forced a smile, trying to show she was fine.

She didn't know why Alexander was here, nor did she have the energy to figure out his intentions.

The pain was so intense that even breathing was difficult.

She endured the excruciating pain, sweat the size of beans rolling down her face.

She stared at the monitor, the images gradually blurring.

This kind of pain was not something an ordinary person could endure.but she believed she could get through it.

Her life had just started anew, and she wanted to live, to live well.

Wendy clenched her eyes shut, enduring the immense pain.

Alexander picked up a tissue and carefully wiped the sweat from her forehead.

Time passed, and the only sound in the treatment room was the hum of the machines. Wendy endured the agony, repeatedly reminding herself not to fall asleep.

Alexander looked at Wendy's pale, haggard face and couldn't help but frown.

His gaze swept over the various readings on the monitor, his heart trembling slightly.

He had expected it to be tough, but not this painful.

She was so delicate and fragile, yet she was holding on, her already bitten lips revealing her pain and endurance.

His brows furrowed, his gaze cold as ice.

Initially, his interest in'her was because he recognized her as the little girl from the Knight family.

But as he spent more time with her, his feelings seemed to grow more complicated.

Especially tonight, watching her struggle in pain, his chest felt like it was weighed down by a heavy stone.

This Wendy, barely in her twenties, had endured so much suffering.

Wendy felt like she was being roasted over a fire one moment and thrown into an ice pit the next.

Finally, with her willpower, the most painful first treatment ended.

Wendy lay on the bed, exhausted, gasping for breath.

Alexander took a damp towel and wiped her forehead.

Wendy turned her head away, her voice hoarse, "I can do it myself,no need to trouble you."

Alexander's eyes flickered, then returned to normal. He set the towel down and handed her a cup of warm water.

"Drink some water, you need to rehydrate."

Wendy drank half a cup of warm water, barely suppressing the pain in her body, though some residual pain lingered.

"Rest for a bit, leave when you feel better," Alexander advised, covering her with a blanket.

Wendy felt dizzy and nodded groggily, closing her eyes and driftng into a deep sleep.

Alexander sat on a stool by her bed, quietly watching over her.

At midnight. Wendy suddenly woke up.

"Hey, you awake?" Alexander sensed it immediately, leaning closer and lowering his voice.

Wendy was stunned for a moment, then realized who he was and shrank back, trying to put some distance between them.

A hint of sadness flashed in Alexander's eyes, but he quiekly hid it. "You okay? Feeling uncomfortable? Should I call a doctor?"

"No need, I'm a doctor myself," Wendy shook her head. "Mr. Turner, thanks for your care."

"You've thanked me plenty," Alexander smiled. "No need to be so formal.Besides, I'm still waiting for you to perform surgery on Chris!"

Alexander made up an excuse.

He knew that if he expressed his feelings now, Wendy would definitely reject him and avoid him.

Sure enough. Wendy felt relieved hearing his excuse.

She still hadn't sorted out the mess with Ethan.

Even if she did, she didn't want to get into another relationship.

Her marriage with Ethan had been exhausting and heartbreaking, leaving her with no energy to love someone else.

Now, she just wanted to take care of Margaret, cure her illness, and focus on her work and studies to become an outstanding doctor.

She had no other thoughts.

Wendy wasn't sure if she was being narcissistic, but she couldn't shake the

feeling that Alexander's attitude toward her was somewhat unusual.leaving her a bit flustered.

Hearing him mention Chris, Wendy let her guard down. "Okay, I'll do my best."

Alexander's eyes showed a hint of disappointment.

He looked out the window; the night was deep, and it had started to rain.

The raindrops pattered against the glass, making a soft sound.

"It's raining outside," he said softly. "It's late, let me take you home."

"Wouldn't that be too much trouble?" Wendy hesitated.

"It's no trouble, I'm heading that way," Alexander stood up. "Come on,I'll take you home."

Wendy hesitated for a moment but didn't refuse. "Thank you."

She nodded, lifted the blanket, and tried to get up.

Suddenly, a wave of dizziness hit her, and she almost fell.

Alexander quickly supported her, frowning. "What's wrong?"

"I'm fine, just a bit dizzy." Wendy shook her head.

Hearing this,Alexander wrapped his right arm around her waist, letting her lean against him.

Wendy, feeling dizzy, could only stand with Alexander's support, allowing him to hold her.

The room was quiet, the atmosphere subtly changing.

Alexander looked down at Wendy in his arms.

She was wearing a loose, comfortable long-sleeve t-shirt and light gray jeans, her skin as smooth as porcelain, her long, curled eyelashes covering her beautiful eyes.

Alexander's heart fluttered, his throat dry, and he couldn't help but slowly lower his head, wanting to kiss her.

Just then, Wendy suddenly opened her eyes.
