Chapter 41: Chapter 41

In the hospital room, Oliver had just finished his first post-surgery bathroom trip and lay back on the bed, feeling relieved.

It had been over ten hours since the surgery, and the dizziness and numbness from the anesthesia had faded away. The surgical incision, covered in gauze, still throbbed'a bit.

Wendy knocked on the door before entering and walked straight to his bedside.

"How are you feeling?"

"Not bad." The intense pain had completely subsided, and Oliver felt much more relaxed.

He was quite polite to Wendy, who stood before him, slender and with a delicate face.

Wendy gently pulled down Oliver's lower eyelidI to check his eyes.

After a brief pause, she began asking about his recent diet, whether he had experienced acid reflux, any bad eating habits, or nighttime stomach pain.

Oliver furrowed his brow, vaguely recalling that this discomfort had been present for some time.

The discomfort had been mild enough that going to the hospital seemed like overreacting, so he had put it off.

She pointed to the knot in Oliver's waistband and asked, "Have you lost some weight recently? Your stomach seems smaller."

Oliver nodded sincerely this time. His waistline had indeed shrunk by a fow inches without him noticing.

"Are you saying I have other issues?" Oliver's voice was a bit dry.

"We need to confirm," Wendy said, frowning.

Just then, Michael entered the room for his rounds.

Wendy looked at Michael and said seriously, "Dr. Chase, his post-op blood work shows his hemoglobin is still only 1 gram per deciliter."

Michael frowned slightly at Wendy's words and turned to Oliver."Besides the incision, is there any other discomfort?"

"Here, it's been a bit uncomfortable," Oliver said, pointing to his upper abdomen.

"Bend your knees and take a deep breath," Michael instructed briefly, stepping forward to examine him with his long, slender fingers.

Oliver winced and let out a soft groan.

Michael pulled down Oliver's eyelid to check, noting the pale pink color, which was clearly not right.

"Let's get an X-ray," Michael said calmly.

"Understood," Wendy replied immediately.

The hospital operated like a never-ending machine, its busy gears spinning rapidly without a moment's pause.

The medical staff worked tirelessly through their shifts and rotations.

After nine o'clock, the entire team Wendy was part of was thrown into a frenzy.

In the surgical specialist clinic, Michael dealt with the flood of outpatient cases, his pen constantly writing up admission orders.

Wendy was fully in the zone, having just finished taking one patient's history when another was brought in.

She moved back and forth, barely having time to catch her breath.

Outside the office, an impatient voice could be heard occasionally. It was nurse Daphne Morgan, her large, expressive eyes full of liveliness and mischief.

Daphne's slim figure looked graceful in her simple nurse's uniform, her curves accentuated.

Her gaze seemed to follow Michael wherever he went, her voice sweet and charming when speaking to him, but she raised her voice when addressing Wendy.

"Wendy, hurry up with those test reports. Don't let them pile up and get forgotten."

"Wendy, speed it up, or I'll get in trouble again."

"Wendy,are you done yet?"

Wendy had already spent too much energy on treatments the previous day and hadn't slept well that night.

The entire morning had been exhausting, leaving her tired and dizzy, her body swaying.

Suddenly, a pair of strong hands gripped Wendy's right arm, steadying her so she could stand.

"Are you okay?" Alexander asked with a concerned frown.

Wendy looked up and smiled when she saw it was Alexander. "I'm fine, thanks."

"It's already noon. Aren't you going to take a break?" Alexander's brow remained furrowed.

Wendy glanced at the time and realized it was already 12:30 PM.

She quickly wiped the sweat from her forehead with a tissue and smiled."Thanks for the reminder, Mr. Turner. No wonder I'm starving."

Hearing Wendy call him "Mr. Turner" again, Alexander wasn't surprised, given they were in the hospital.

"Chris asked me to invite you to lunch. Would you like to join us?"Alexander inavited with a smile.

Wendy hesitated for a moment before nodding.

Alexander's smile deepened. "Let's go. The food just arrived in his room."

"Okay," Wendy replied, following Alexander toward the elevator.

When they entered the VIP room on the top floor. Wendy was surprised to find a pretty girl inside, gently adjusting Chris's clothes.
