Victor Sullivan jerked his head up from the water basin.
Droplets streamed down his face.
He wiped his cheeks and glared at Audrey. "Have you lost your mind?"
Audrey's lips curled in a cold smile. "Me? You're the one who's insane! I finally got my son back—not for you to mistreat!"
"I was just reminding him of his position."
"Since when does he need your reminders?" Audrey's voice rose sharply. "He didn't even dare come home after fracturing his bones. Stayed at Kyle Grant's place the whole time. Never once mentioned being a Sullivan in public. Took every snub from Luna's father without a word. He's more cautious than you'll ever be!"
Victor fell silent.
Audrey seized his collar. "How dare you humiliate such a good boy?"
"I didn't humiliate him," Victor defended. "Grave robbing is a stain—it affects company stocks. I was considering shareholders."
"A stain?" Her eyes reddened. "If he hadn't been stolen, he'd be as exceptional as Ethan!"
"Since when have I looked down on him?"
Audrey shoved him away. "Hypocrite!"
Victor grabbed his phone to apologize, only to find himself blocked.
When he called from the landline, Shane's voice was icy. "Silas Prescott is my father."
"You'd rather claim a thief as family?"
"You're the one who rejected me." The line went dead.
Victor turned to Audrey with a pained expression.
"Serves you right!" She spun on her heel.
At the doorway, she suddenly whirled back and slapped him across the face.
"You!" Victor clutched his cheek. "Addicted to hitting me now?"
"My son suffered a thousand times worse!" Audrey's voice cracked. "Thrown into the mountains as a newborn to be wolf food. Forced into tombs as a child—his body covered in scars..."
After a long pause, Victor extended his hand. "Go ahead. Hit me again."
The next afternoon, Victor tracked Shane down at a mountain excavation site.
Detective Kevin North blinked in surprise. "Chairman Sullivan? What brings you here?"
"Thought I'd see if I could help." Victor's gaze kept darting to Shane.
"You and Shane...?"
"He saved my wife," Victor said.
Shane's mouth twisted in a humorless smirk.
Then Audrey arrived.
She offered Shane water and wiped his sweat, only for him to subtly evade her touch.
Shane led the group to an ancient pine.
"There's a looted tomb beneath," he said. "But it's... unusual."
During excavation, someone shouted, "Human remains!"
Kevin immediately went rigid.
Calmly, Shane recounted events from fifteen years prior—how someone tried to bury him and his father alive, only to leave their own accomplice in the grave instead.
Audrey's heart twisted like a knife.
But Victor chose that moment to say, "Next time, don't pull a knife on Adrian."
After learning what happened, Audrey noticed an earthen pit nearby.
"Victor, come look at this," she beckoned.
When he leaned over, Audrey kicked him straight into the hole.
"What the hell?" Victor scrambled up, covered in dirt.
"Now you'll know how it feels!" Audrey grabbed a shovel and began burying him alive.
