Ethan Roscente had always been particular about food. Jenna Roland worried silently that Grandma Blanche's choices might not suit his refined palate.
"Let him eat or not," Grandma Blanche waved dismissively. "We're ordering first."
Jenna pressed her lips together and didn't insist.
The private dining room door swung open. Milo Roland entered, followed closely by Ethan.
Grandma Blanche arched an eyebrow. "How did you two end up together?"
Milo glanced at the silent Ethan before explaining, "We ran into Mr. Roscente downstairs and came up together."
"Take your seats," Grandma Blanche gestured.
Milo sat beside Jenna and nodded respectfully at Grandpa Harrison Roscente. "Good evening, Grandpa Harrison."
The elderly man smiled warmly. "How are your studies progressing, Milo?"
Ethan's gaze swept across the table as he took his seat. "Has the food been ordered?"
Grandma Blanche shot him a glare. "What? Were you waiting for His Highness to personally select the menu?"
Ethan fell silent, rendered speechless.
Turning to Milo, Grandma Blanche's tone softened. "Have you decided which university to attend?"
"University of Southern California," Milo's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. "Their employment statistics are excellent."
"Ambitious!" Grandma Blanche declared. "We'll cover half your tuition when you're accepted."
Milo waved his hands hastily. "That's unnecessary. I plan to work part-time."
Jenna interjected, "Grandma, I'll handle Milo's tuition. You should save your money for retirement."
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Ethan's slight frown. Her chest tightened. She couldn't let him misunderstand her intentions regarding the Roscente family's wealth again.
Grandpa Harrison chuckled. "We sponsor many underprivileged students. One more won't make a difference."
"You do charity work?" Milo looked surprised.
"Indeed," Grandpa Harrison nodded. "Every child deserves educational opportunities."
Waiters began serving dishes as Grandma Blanche enthusiastically urged the siblings to eat.
Watching his silent son, Grandpa Harrison couldn't help scolding, "Ethan, did you come here to dine or to practice being mute?"
This dinner was meant to bring the young couple closer, yet his wooden son hadn't uttered a single meaningful word. Grandpa Harrison shook his head in frustration. At this rate, his future daughter-in-law might slip through their fingers.
