Jenna Roland and Chloe Blanchet were fully aware that Jake Varley had brought people to beat Stella Laurent. The day Jake came looking for trouble with Stella, he ended up being taught a lesson by Tristan Ashcroft's men. To make matters worse, the secret stash of money he'd been saving was stolen by Stella right under his nose.
Jake couldn't swallow this humiliation.
"If I'd known he'd retaliate, I would've told them to beat him harder that day," Jenna said through gritted teeth.
Chloe sighed. "When are you planning to visit Stella?"
"Not today. I have work." Jenna glanced at her watch. "Tomorrow, maybe. It's too late after my shift."
"Alright, call me tomorrow." Chloe nodded.
Jenna turned to change in the locker room. Chloe followed and suddenly lowered her voice. "Speaking of revenge... Sophia Merouin hasn't caused you any trouble since she quit, has she?"
Jenna paused mid-motion.
"She had someone follow me," Jenna said, buttoning her blouse. "The boss found out. That night, Sophia and her lackey were taken away by his men."
Chloe gasped.
"She actually—" Chloe paled. "Thank God the boss stepped in."
Jenna smirked coldly. "She thought there was something between me and the boss. That's why she went crazy."
"So... you and the boss—" Chloe wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
"Don't even go there!" Jenna shoved her clothes into the locker with force. "We're just employer and employee."
Chloe pouted. "You're gorgeous. It's normal if he's attracted to you."
Jenna shot her a stern look. "Don't spread rumors. That kind of talk helps no one."
They stepped out of the locker room, and Jenna was immediately called away by a client.
The club was unusually busy tonight. With her sweet looks and sharp social skills, Jenna had built a loyal clientele. She barely had time to catch her breath before midnight arrived.
Tristan had promised to let her leave by eleven, but it was already past twelve when Jenna finally got a break.
"The boss wants to see you," a server informed her.
Smoothing her dress, Jenna knocked on Tristan's office door.
"Have a seat." Tristan gestured to the chair across from him.
Jenna closed the door behind her, anxiety creeping in. "Boss, what did you need?"
