Chapter 248: Chapter 248

"Alright." Grandma Blanche shot Grandpa Harrison a glance, forcing a smile before turning her attention to Jenna Roland.

Jenna asked for their destination and summoned a rideshare on her phone.

She stood waiting until she saw the elderly couple safely inside the vehicle, then rode off on her e-bike with relief.

Inside the white sedan, Grandma Blanche exhaled deeply and patted her chest. "That was close. Good thing she didn't suspect anything."

Grandpa Harrison frowned. "Who knew she'd leave the house so suddenly? We'll need to be more careful next time."

"Exactly." Grandma Blanche lowered her voice. "If our identities were exposed, there'd be no explaining it later."

Grandpa Harrison nodded in agreement.

......

At the hospital room, Jenna pushed the door open to find not just Stella and Sylvia Laurent, but also a sharply dressed man in a suit.

Stella smiled warmly. "Jenna, this is Lucien Valois. Lucien, meet my friend Jenna Roland."

Jenna offered a polite smile. "Mr. Valois."

Lucien remained silent, his dark eyes sweeping over her before settling on her face.

The corner of his mouth lifted as he extended a slender hand. "Miss Roland. I've heard much about you."

After a brief handshake, Jenna withdrew her hand and turned to Stella. "How are you feeling today?"

Stella beamed. "Much better. But shouldn't you be catching up on sleep at this hour?"

Jenna's voice softened. "I was worried about you. Any news from Jake Varley?"

Sylvia interjected with a cold laugh. "The money's been recovered. As for him..." She crossed her legs elegantly. "He's lucky to be alive."

Jenna's brows furrowed. "What's his condition now?"

A glacial glint flashed in Sylvia's eyes. "His hands are useless. So is his lower body. That's the price for touching my sister."

Jenna's heart lurched, startled by Sylvia's brutality.

Yet remembering Jake's crimes, she couldn't deny he deserved it.

"What about the police..." Jenna voiced her concern.

Lucien spoke abruptly. "My people handled it. Sylvia wasn't involved." His gaze lingered on Jenna with undisguised interest. "You and Stella have known each other long?"

Jenna met his stare. "We're old friends."

Sylvia observed coldly, instantly recognizing the spark in Lucien's eyes.

She knew this man too well—Lucien Valois, the notorious playboy who never glanced twice at ordinary women.

Unless, of course, he'd taken a liking to one.
