Jenna Roland emerged from the wholesale market dragging two enormous bags of clothes. Sweat dampened the stray hairs clinging to her forehead.
She panted as she dropped the bundles at Ethan Roscente's feet, her cheeks flushed from exertion.
"There's one more bag upstairs." Wiping her brow, her eyes sparkled. "Wait here."
Ethan reached to help, but she dodged with surprising agility.
"I've got this!" She turned and sprinted upstairs, her ponytail bouncing behind her.
Within ten minutes, Jenna descended with a third oversized bundle obscuring her view. Yet her steps remained steady despite the obstructed vision.
"We should carry them together." Jenna scanned their surroundings warily. "What if someone steals the clothes?"
Ethan chuckled but obediently lifted two bags. Jenna clutched the remaining bundle protectively, like a mother bear guarding her cub.
Their e-tricycle waited by the market entrance. Jenna dashed over in quick strides, only relaxing after verifying the garments' safety.
"You need a proper vehicle." Ethan eyed the overloaded trike.
At the red light, Jenna hit the brakes.
"A minivan?" She scoffed. "Too expensive."
Ethan turned with focused intensity. "Used ones are affordable. More practical too."
Jenna nibbled her lip in thought. When the light turned green, she revved the engine.
"You're right." She sighed. "Should've asked around earlier."
At Mall of America, Jenna stretched as her stomach growled audibly.
"Come on, I'll buy you baozi." She winked at Ethan. "Their soy milk is amazing."
Tanya Hill was organizing merchandise at her stall. After entrusting her with the trike, Jenna tugged Ethan toward the breakfast shop.
Morning sunlight draped over them, casting elongated shadows. Jenna's steps turned light and lively, as if the earlier exhaustion had never existed.
