Chapter 97: Chapter 97

"Officer Hill, if I give them the money, will that prove their extortion?" Jenna Roland gripped her phone, knuckles turning white.

The voice on the other end confirmed, "Exactly. It'll complete the evidence chain. The sentencing will be harsher."

"Understood. Thank you."

Hanging up, Jenna mounted her e-bike and sped toward Studio 54.

From a distance, she spotted Victor Roland and Heidi Roland standing like sentinels at the club's entrance. The security guards ignored them since they weren't causing trouble.

Heidi's sharp eyes caught sight of Jenna first. "Jenna!" she shrieked.

Victor whirled around, his face darkening instantly. He stormed toward her, spittle flying. "You ungrateful wretch! The Roland family housed you for five years, and this is how you repay us?"

Jenna's chest heaved.

The audacity of their twisted logic nearly made her laugh.

"Victor, your wife and son committed extortion, and you're blaming me?" Jenna's voice dripped ice. "The law treats everyone equally. They dug their own grave."

Heidi cut in, "We're family! How can you be so heartless?"

"Family?" Jenna's gaze turned razor-sharp. "When Milo and I lived with you, we paid rent and expenses every month. What did you ever do besides skimp on our meals?"

The couple fell silent.

Jenna crossed her arms. "Keep demanding money. I'll keep paying. It'll just send your whole family to prison faster."

Victor suddenly lurched forward, his rancid breath hitting her face. "Want the orchard? Over my dead body!"

Jenna froze—then burst into laughter. When it ceased, her eyes had frosted over completely.
