To him, Alexander had always been the epitome of a strictly professional, no-nonsense leader.
Lately, however, he seemed to be making constant exceptions—all for his wife.
Now, he was launching an entire exclusive design line just for Evelyn.
It was a grand gesture, to say the least.
Despite his shock, the assistant knew better than to question the order.
"Yes, Mr. Blackwood," the assistant replied promptly.
It was abundantly clear—Alexander was not just willing to go the extra mile for his wife; he was prepared to go to any length. As his assistant, all he could do was silently wish them happiness.
After trying on the dress, Evelyn's stomach began to growl with hunger.
Alexander and Evelyn made their way to the dining room for dinner.
"I know you've had a long day, so the kitchen prepared your favorites. Please eat," Alexander said softly.
Evelyn smiled. "It's only Monday."
Alexander returned her smile. "I'm not sure why, but you seem to have lost a little weight since you returned."
As he spoke, he served a portion of food onto Evelyn's plate.
Without hesitation, she took a bite.
A sudden, intense wave of nausea surged from her stomach.
Evelyn frowned, trying to suppress it, but the discomfort only intensified.
"Evelyn, what's wrong?" Alexander noticed the change immediately. He set down his utensils, his expression full of concern.
Samuel also looked worried. "Is there an issue with the food? Should we have it remade?"
Evelyn opened her mouth to respond, but another wave of nausea overwhelmed her.
She couldn't hold it back. She stood up abruptly and rushed to the nearest bathroom, barely reaching the sink before she began to gag violently.
Alexander's face tightened with alarm. He swiftly wheeled over and began gently patting her back, trying to offer some comfort.
Evelyn continued to dry heave, her face turning pale.
"Get the car ready! We're going to the hospital!" Alexander instructed his assistant, his voice sharp with urgency.
Evelyn rinsed her mouth, still feeling weak. "It's nothing serious. I probably just haven't been getting enough rest lately."
Her recent promotion to department head had come with an overwhelming workload, causing significant stress.
"Regardless, we are getting you checked. It could be a stomach issue," Alexander insisted firmly.
Seeing the determination in his eyes, Evelyn couldn't help but smile softly.
She was about to speak when Samuel suddenly blurted out, his voice filled with excitement, "Mrs. Blackwood, could it be... could you be pregnant?"
Samuel's words left both Evelyn and Alexander utterly stunned.
Alexander's expression shifted, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his features.
Truthfully, he had never seriously contemplated fatherhood.
But now, the idea of a child—a child sharing Evelyn's blood, perhaps even bearing her resemblance—stirred a surprising sense of anticipation deep within him.
A child? Their child?
Evelyn's eyes widened in disbelief. "That's impossible, isn't it?"
She and Alexander had always been careful.
With others present, Evelyn felt too embarrassed to elaborate.
Samuel, however, was insistent. "Mrs. Blackwood, it's very possible. When my wife was pregnant, her morning sickness was just like this. You really should take this seriously."
Evelyn felt momentarily dazed. She turned slowly to look at Alexander, who appeared equally shocked.
After a brief silence, Evelyn murmured, "Let's go to the hospital. That's the only way to know for sure."
Taking a steadying breath, she began to step forward when Alexander suddenly reached out and took her hand.
