Chapter 287: Chapter 288

"It's not an enormous amount—perhaps three million dollars, give or take—but..." Gregory hesitated, glancing at Alexander, uncertain whether to proceed.

Alexander's voice was like ice. "Continue."

Gregory swallowed hard. "I investigated further. Mrs. Blackwood didn't just spend at our competitors' establishments—she also visited our business partners. That's manageable, at least those transactions were legitimate. But she also went to companies we have no ties with..."

"She can spend her money however she pleases, but people might interpret her actions as an endorsement from us. If we don't handle this carefully, it could cause serious complications."

Who would dare disrespect Mrs. Blackwood's standing? Even her rivals wouldn't risk crossing her entirely.

So, these past few days, Amy had been strolling through high-end boutiques, marriage certificate in hand, flaunting her title as Mrs. Blackwood—and no one dared refuse her.

At last, Amy had learned how to wield the influence of "Mrs. Blackwood" properly. When Nathan heard Gregory's report, his eyes widened in disbelief.

So Amy wasn’t just outmaneuvering him—she was dragging Alexander down with her.

"Alex, this woman is using your name to parade around town, tarnishing your reputation at every turn!"

Alexander didn’t need Nathan to spell it out. He already knew Amy was doing this deliberately.

Rubbing his temples, he felt a headache forming.

Amy was becoming a never-ending problem.

The money was trivial—it was the political implications that mattered.

If he tried to have someone monitor her, she'd just call the police and accuse him of unlawful confinement.

But if he ignored her antics, who knew what chaos she'd stir up next?

Nathan broke the silence. "Alex, your divorce waiting period is almost over. My advice? End this marriage before she drags your name any deeper into the mud."

"Once Victoria's medication arrives, I'll help you deal with Amy once and for all."

A cold glint flashed in Nathan's eyes.

"She has no power, no connections. I can't believe she actually thinks she can challenge us. So what if Sebastian Kingsley supports her? She's a divorced woman with a child—there's no way Sebastian would risk everything for someone like her."

"With Dominic on our side, no one in this city can touch us."

Alexander's dark gaze was unreadable.

He tapped his fingers lightly against the desk, clearly weighing his options.

After a long pause, he finally spoke. "You should go. I'll cover whatever Amy spent at Prescott Industries."

Nathan wanted to argue, but considering his own precarious position, he wisely held his tongue.

Meanwhile, Amy was shopping with Samantha when her phone rang. Alexander's name flashed on the screen.

"Amy, don't push your luck," Alexander's voice was frigid.

Amy casually flipped through a rack of dresses, nodding at the sales associate beside her. "This one, this one, and that one over there..."

She selected over a dozen outfits before finally responding, "I have no idea what you're talking about."

"I'll be at city hall on our divorce day, right on time." Alexander's tone was icy. "My patience has limits. Try anything between now and then, and I won't hold back."

He hung up before she could reply.

Amy stared at her phone, her expression distant.

Samantha, who had been watching curiously, nudged her. "Was that bastard Alexander?"

Amy nodded.

"Can't handle the heat anymore, huh?" Samantha grinned.

"Something like that," Amy replied.

Samantha gave her a thumbs-up. "Celeste, you really know how to keep him on edge."

Nearby, the sales associate leaned in and asked softly, "Mrs. Blackwood, will you be taking all the dresses you selected?"

Amy snapped out of her thoughts and smiled. "Leave out the last few I mentioned. The rest—wrap them up for me."

The associate beamed, barely containing her excitement.

...

Time passed swiftly.

Before long, the mandatory waiting period for the divorce was over.

Amy arrived at city hall, documents in hand, ready to begin her new life.
