The tabloid journalists were shameless, spinning wild tales just to make a quick profit. No wonder their publications were always filled with ridiculous gossip.
Once the entertainment reporters were escorted inside for a "polite discussion" with the authorities, the chaotic scene outside the police station finally settled.
Amy needed to cooperate with the investigation. After giving a brief nod to the radio journalists still lingering nearby, she turned and walked back into the precinct.
But the reporters weren’t going anywhere. They camped outside the station doors, ready to pounce on the first scrap of news that emerged.
For them, waiting hours—or even days—for a story was just part of the job. They could hold out as long as necessary.
This time, the police treated Amy with far more respect than before.
She calmly explained her side of Nathan’s accusations.
"Here’s the truth," she began. "At the time, Alexander and I were still married. I visited his department store purely for market research—not to steal trade secrets. There was nothing illegal about it."
"Every single item I purchased was paid for in full. If you don’t believe me, check Alexander’s bank records. Every transaction came directly from his account."
The officers listened carefully before sending someone to verify her claims.
Moments later, the officer returned with a file in hand.
"Ms. Sinclair’s account is accurate," he confirmed. "All purchases were properly paid for, and the funds were indeed drawn from Mr. Blackwood’s account."
Amy added, "Alexander was just here. If you still have doubts, bring him in. He authorized those payments—he knows exactly where the money went."
The lead detective considered this before instructing an officer to check if Alexander was still outside.
Once they confirmed his presence, they sent for him.
Meanwhile, outside the police station:
Nathan and Victoria, finally grasping the full situation, looked as if they’d swallowed something bitter.
"Amy actually donated all the money and auction items? What kind of game is she playing?" Victoria muttered under her breath.
But Nathan didn’t have time to dwell on it—his phone suddenly rang.
It was his assistant.
"Mr. Prescott, was it your decision to rehabilitate Ms. Sinclair’s image and position her as a fearless challenger of corporate corruption?"
Nathan exploded. "Rehabilitate Amy? Turn her into some kind of hero? Have you all lost your minds? If I wanted to build her up, why would I have blacklisted her in the first place?"
The assistant stammered, "It’s just… since Amy’s donations went viral, we haven’t been able to suppress the story. Public opinion is overwhelmingly in her favor now, and the ban against her is causing massive backlash…"
Nathan’s face darkened. "Did I not make myself clear? Any positive coverage of Amy, any attempt to salvage her reputation—delete it immediately! Not a single word about her should go public. How is this difficult to understand?"
The assistant sounded desperate. "B-but… we can’t control government accounts. And now, all of Amy’s social media profiles have been reinstated. The PR department is actively pushing positive campaigns about her."
"Major news outlets and influencers are ready to publish. They’re just waiting for your final approval."
Nathan’s jaw tightened. "Waiting for me? I told you to dig up dirt on her, not promote her! Who authorized this PR blitz?"
The assistant hesitated. "The PR team said the orders came from you—they even tried to confirm earlier. I only just found out and thought something was off, so I called to double-check."
